$9M from what I read, and they need to re-sign the four RFAs

Gotta move Ghost and/or JVR if they want to make any real changes. Have to think one goes this year and the other goes into the expansion draft next year and they try to bribe Seattle into taking them.

I think they were happy with JVRs regular season. Ghost is probably gone.

Re-sign Hagg, Myers, NAK and Patrick. Maybe with Elliott on a downgraded one year deal. The rest can leave. It’s time for the young talent to fill out the roster.
Keep that #23 selection. There will be a potentially decent player available at that spot.
Everyone is down on Therrien because of the poor power play. IDK, maybe he is a dope and can’t put one together and should be canned. Then again, maybe the players that he has just aren’t that good on the PP? It’s obvious that TPTB wanted Provorov on it and not Gostisbehere. Provorov improved on it as the season went on. Also his presence stopped all of the two on ones the other way when Gostisbehere’s shot missed the net or when he was stripped of the puck at the point.

AV finished 2nd for the Jack Adams Award behind Bruce Cassidy. Cassidy had 37 1st-place votes and 288 points, Vigneault had 32 1st-place votes and 252 points, Torts was 3rd with 28/198, and ol friend Berube was 4th with 12/126

Jordan Hall: Nolan Patrick is feeling better, he's living mostly a normal life, per Chuck Fletcher. Continues to improve and the Flyers are counting on him playing at some point next season.

Happy for the kid but that’s a mistake to count on him

Fletcher pretty much said they aren't going to get any big free agents because of the cap so I am not sure they are counting on Patrick as much as some of their youth stepping up.

That's deflating but not totally unexpected. We have a small window here to compete for the Cup, this "run it back" approach isn't good enough imo

He said he'll be working the phones for trades but don't expect free agents for a couple of years.

This year's UFA class doesn't look that amazing anyway. Who would you want? Hall? Maroon?

Um yeah, Hall, Krug, Pietrangelo all would be great. There are a number of other guys that would be a good fit as well.

The consensus was that the Flyers needed a better #1 defensive pairing and we couldn't score. Hall was the MVP of the league and Pietrangelo is the first or second best player on a Cup winning team last year. I think Pietrangelo is going to age fine and Hall is entering his age 29 season. Before the cap situation, my hope was they would pay someone to take JVR then go after a difference maker. Really sucks that we have 11.5 million dollars tied up in JVR/Ghost.

I'm very curious to see what kind of deal Myers gets. Hagg and NAK won't be very expensive, but this is the last year of Hart's super cheap deal. If we had 11.5 million tied up in actual useful players, we would be contenders.

Hart is a baby. The window is not small... the window to get G a cup and shut up people like The Savior, however, is.

I agree in that the window is not small. If anything, it’s just starting to open. With a top notch goalie and a young and improving defense, things are coming on.
Couturier, Lindblom, Konecny, Farabee and Hayes are the start of a top six that could be a Cup winner. With all of the young talent-Frost, NAK, Laczynski, Allison, Bunnaman and others, there are the parts in line to fill out a good bottom six. Throw in Raffl and Laughton and the talent level rises even more.
The killers right now are Voracek and van Riemsdyk who are not playing up to their needed roles and are on huge contracts.Giroux is two years younger than Bergeron. He’s not finished. He just needs to be moved into a different role than the guy who has to carry the club on his back.

I think the window is open for a while, but I do think they need one more top 6 forward and one top pairing defender. They are probably good on forwards internally and hopefully a young guy steps up but adding a top tier defender is going to be tricky.

We have Hart, so in theory, we will always be "contenders." What i'm trying to articulate is the external option's window expires after next season with the current nucleus. You have to pay this nice, young core all within the next 2 years. So if you wanted to get a big time FA, this is kinda the last offseason you have that opportunity. All that cap space that you will have, has to go to Sanheim/Myers/Hart etc. Hopefully they figure out how to trade JVR and coax Seattle into taking Voracek in the expansion draft. That will free up the necessary money to pay our guys while having the ability to be active in FA and the deadline.

Signing a FA of much expense puts the Flyers in cap hell. Now if Fletcher can move a JVR or a Voracek and Gostisbehere to create some space and then go after a FA, that’s one thing. To sign someone first puts the Flyers in a box that trade partners could exploit (think what happened after the Leafs signed Tavares here). Besides there are many FAs worth pursuing anyway.
Fletcher is probably right when he says that he will try to be active in the trade market. Even there it’s going to be tough. The cap is going to squeeze a lot of clubs. Making a deal where the talent and numbers work will be difficult. However I do believe that Fletcher will find a way to make an impactful move. We might be surprised as to who is obtained and who leaves. AV’s comments about some players needing to put on their big boy pants during the POs shows that he was not satisfied with the compete from what is seen as the team’s leadership group.
