azrider wrote:with regard to rivers... good coach, but more of a high floor guy. think he's good in the macro sense and won't disappoint with a good team in the regular season. he'll get more out of the lesser talent too. he's not going to steal you a series though and much of what gimpy stated true. chicago would've been a great landing spot for him, but billy D is so similar. i liked billy d and would prefer him over rivers for the simple fact that he had only one nba stop and there's that chance for growth. with rivers, what you see is what you get. clearly not my first choice or 2nd but he is better than brett brown. i don't know how committed or excited MDA is having embiid, simmons, and horford on the same roster, but if i he isn't, give me rivers, he will make it work in the regular season and would be surprised by anything less than a 3 seed going in.

lue > rivers > d'antoni

of the names being thrown around.

wasn't a huge fan of lue at first because of a lebron affect, but going back maybe that wasn't fair. he's grown on me. his name hasn't come up much since the beginning, but i would take joerger over what's available.

The added plus to Joerger being a really good coach is that maybe he will kill off Josh Harris.

GM's/owners have to be afraid to touch him.

The way Joerger's stops played out in both Memphis and Sacramento reminds me of that great quote from Justified: "If you run into an asshole in the morning, you ran into an asshole. If you run into assholes all day, you're the asshole."

He had 147 wins in three years in Memphis and guided the Kings to their best record in close to 15 years and those two franchises couldn't fire him fast enough. Those seem to be some giant red flags about his personality.

Woj says they’re not interviewing anyone else and a decision is expected this week.
Two days later I get a text back that says I'm a basketball player and a businessman, not a Thundercat.

So apparently they all said their answer would be yes?

Seems that way. Doc, Lue, and MDA.

Possibly. Definitely listed as a candidate but not sure whether it was ever reported that he got a formal interview.

I want to say I’m disappointed with them half-assing the search by only looking at the obvious candidates, but it’s hard to be disappointed by something you expected to happen. At the same time, this is a team that probably shouldn’t be handed over to a first time head coach since there are questions about accountability in the locker room and we need a guy who the players will listen to.

Regardless of who they choose, I will probably be in this thread pumping that guy up despite the fact that I have no faith in our ownership because I’m a hopeful optimist at my core.

I expect a chaos of reactions followed by reasons for why this is fine.

Can't wait

Yeah it seems like they just decided to focus on candidates that have a lot of experience coaching contenders and there really aren’t that many of those.

Can’t say I trust Brand to tap the next hot name anyway.

Interestingly enough that they're done with the interviews, Doc met with Elton today, but that Doc plans on meeting with Harris and Blitzer tonight.

Connecting dots...

To add to that, RealGM insider says "barring something unforeseen, we should expect a hire before Game 2."

Putting it all together, it's really starting to feel like it's going to be Doc Rivers IMO. From the Sixers' perspective, he's got the championship on his resume like Lue, has the experience like MDA, and not only has a history of coaching stars but got Tobias Harris playing arguably better than he ever had or has. Additionally, the fact that someone with his profile spoke with the Sixers first and within days of leaving the Clippers makes you think that the Sixers very well could be his preference over the other jobs he's been connected to.

Most of the people on ESPN thought he would rejoin them for a year. Stephen A. seemed to think Philly was too good a match to pass up. He makes guys lots of money.

Would be a good hire. He maximizes a lot of talent that others probably couldn't and that is what this team needs.

I'm nervous that it's gonna be Doc and that's the safe pick. I just wanna ride on the wild side, but the Process must be way past that.

Harris wants Image and I say that as if it's a bad thing. I'll need hours of convincing.

Lue was seventh on the Clippers coaching depth chart last season. if they hire internally, it's probably Cassell

(ready to be wrong about this :-D )
