When was the last time I felt good about the Phillies' season? Oh, right Tuesday.

(That said, I listened to the top of the ninth on the radio when they tied it up. got hme in time to watch teh bottom and there was no way i was going to turn it on, so sure was I that that it would end there).

This. The guy is a physical specimen. Six X $22 or so. When he’s done catching he could go to a corner IF position or DH. The guy is a Biggio pt. 2. Pay him and play him.

Well if that’s the case you’ve gotta pay him with that in mind and you probably shouldn’t be planning on committing to Hoskins or Bohm long term.

JT, Bohm and Hoskins can handle 1B, 3B and DH between them. Realmuto is a player so he definitely gets one of those slots; C for now. We’ll have to wait and see about the other two and where/if they play.

you probably shouldn't be committing to Hoskins long term regardless of the realmuto situation

This looking more likely every day. He has really hit the skids. Hard to believe that when the pitchers adjusted to him with the low outside stuff, that he couldn’t do the same and take that pitch the opposite way. Almost Howard-seque. Hoskins has the power to take the ball out to any field. He doesn’t have to go dead pull but it’s what he does. It’s a shame.

Yeah that sounds right.

If Bohm can play 3rd it makes things easier but there are doubts about that.

Realmuto's bWAR is 16 from his age 25-28 seasons. Yasmani Grandal's was 8 during that same time-frame and signed a FA deal with the White Sox at age 31 with an AAV of 18.25M. The top-end of the 2020 catchers in AAV is Molina at $20M, so Realmuto is going to get more than $20M a year. Would you do 5 years at say $105M?

It does. It has been reported that Bohm has been willing to put in the time to stick at 3B. He may prove to be adequate there. No one should expect him to be a GG and I think all of those errors of the other night were an anomaly. There have been tall rangy 3B that have been successful- Don Demeter comes to mind. His height has advantages and disadvantages. Let’s give him some time. He does have an arm that is strong enough for the position.
BIG, I do that deal for Realmuto and add some sort of option if necessary.

Seriously. Hoskins isn’t a long term thought especially not in any relation to JT. Bohm will be here longer than Rhys who hasn’t been a long term option in nearly 2 years due to his below average play.

He wanted the Goldschmidt contract 5/130.

Let's hope, either way he's cheap for long enough that you can probably wait and see how his defense develops and how JT is holding up before committing. Rhys is someone they should probably be deciding on in the next 12 months, worst case is another Cesar situation where you don't want to pay his last arbitration year and you lose him for nothing.
