Yasmani Grandal's was 8 during that same time-frame and signed a FA deal with the White Sox at age 31 with an AAV of 18.25M. The top-end of the 2020 catchers in AAV is Molina at $20M, so Realmuto is going to get more than $20M a year. Would you do 5 years at say $105M?
I would. I don't think JT would.
I could stomach 5/125, but 5/130 would be higher AAV than Harper and he's two years older (I am in agreement we should resign him). Obviously we traded a cheap, controable asset to get him and we need to recoup some ROI.
Putting aside trading Sixto for Realmuto, the Phillies knew they won't be getting him on the cheap and I think it's a bit shortsighted to think 60 games would drive his overall price up.
