I'm still so confused on how baseball is actually going to happen.

I still don't think it will.

The home ballpark thing still makes absolutely no sense to me.

I would say with 100% certainty that this quarantine will not cover sports

That seems fairly arbitrary

Only as arbitrary as the antitrust exception that baseball has.

Here's the thing with MLB and all other sports who are trying to force the issue. They're very likely going to put themselves in a horrible dilemma: The positive cases are going to start multiplying decimating teams and their support staffs so the league will have to decide whether to continue to push on in the face of credible claims that they're making matters worse OR stop their seasons (again) and waste all the time, effort, money ands credibility they've invested. IMO they'd all be better off in the long wrong just cancelling any play this year, plan for next year and offer their support to local efforts in their communities to help with the virus and BLM reforms.

I think games will happen but there’s gonna be a clear and obvious risk and guys will have to decide on an individual basis whether it’s worth it to play. I know Wheeler said months ago that if he couldn’t be with his pregnant wife he probably wouldn’t play.

Wouldn’t shock me if like 20% of guys sat out.

One thing to keep in mind is if the players are playing baseball, they will be observing the safety protocols. If they're out and about, we have no reason to think they're likely to be especially vigilant about social distancing and the like.

Yeah and not to mention all of the traveling for road games. There's so much risk even if the players just go from plane/bus to hotel to ballpark to hotel.

Again, keep in mind MLB teams have the advantage of being able to afford to keep away from the population no matter where they are in the country. If they are getting multiple positives every round of testing this time next month, that's a problem. But the only way that happens is if guys ignore the protocols. They'll be OK in their hotels and on charter flights and bus rides.

The Astros could go play the Rays next weekend with zero new infections if everyone follows the rules, which isn't that difficult given the money invested. For PR purposes, it would certainly help if the graphs would stop shooting vertically before the first pitch is thrown next month.

baseball players breaking rules? inconceivable. almost as inconceivable as baseball putting greed over health and trying to have a season this year.
and, for pr purposes, graphs shooting vertically again mid-august wouldn't be much better.
the lesson we all should have learned from the last month is that there is far, far too much stupidity in the usa to make the completion of even this crazy reduced season any more likely than what whitey (iirc) used to call "slim and none, and slim just bought a bus ticket out of town"

Will be so weird that the Phils will probably play a couple games at Camden Yards that I can drive by after work but won't be able to go into the stadium to see
Even if you get run over by a clown car and pissed on by a busload of school children, it's still your responsibility to interpret the meaning of the event and choose a response

COVID surge is not the time to publicly discuss this, but every team should be coming up with parking lot concepts to allow fans to experience whatever they can safely. Like distanced tailgating (BSG?) or Xfinity Live at reduced capacity outside. Players would probably hear commotion outside for homers, etc.

The flip side would be perhaps making sure such things are NOT possible out of COVID and drunk driving concerns. Wrigley and Fenway among others would be a shitshow. Maybe they could try to enforce no alcohol consumption after a certain inning? Ugh, I think I prefer the top paragraph here
