“If you’re looking to expose individuals in baseball’s history who promoted racism by continuing to close baseball’s doors to men of color, Kenesaw Landis would be a candidate,” three-time NL MVP Mike Schmidt of Philadelphia said.
“Looking back to baseball in the early 1900s, this was the norm. It doesn’t make it right, though,” said the Hall of Famer, who is white. “Removing his name from the MVP trophy would expose the injustice of that era. I’d gladly replace the engraving on my trophies.”

Yeah. He has gotten a lot of flack for dumb things that he's said, but it always seemed to me to be more an issue of him tripping over himself trying to make a point and it coming out bad rather than any sort of malicious intent behind it. He seems like a decent guy, just not the brightest bulb. I still don't want him in the booth.

Good for him. Definitely think more resources and opportunities would help but idk how you compete against:
* basketball and football just being "cooler" - the players themselves, the gear, the video games, etc.
* the overall trend of specialization, with kids being forced to "pick" 1-2 sports instead of playing 3+
* incentives for MLB / teams to invest in Latin America where they can lock players up freely (without requiring the draft), early, and favorably
* (early) financial incentives - full scholarships in football and basketball, path to making big money sooner
* pace / length / style of play - longer games with less action, vs. basketball and football pace increasing
* MLB owners decision to maximize value per ticket vs. filling the stadium (which requires lower-priced tickets)

Coming out of Twitter retirement to come at me again? My guy, we can have our own corners of the Internet. You can do you. I can do me. And we can co-exist. It’s not hard. I can “bask” in my numbers and you can “bask” in your numbers, if the bank has let you keep any of them
