MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL IN 2020 (RANDOM MLB THREAD)

Maybe they can end it by showing some of the classic Marlins games from the last few years after he traded away all of their good players.

Apparently, teams around the league are cutting loads of minor league players today. Passan says he expects around 1,000 minor league players to be cut in the next week. That would be 33-34 per team.

Can't blame them. That $12/week really adds up.

The A’s are exploiting a new market inefficiency and they aren’t cutting their minor leagues, they’re just going to stop paying them on May 31

This thread reminded me that Andre Dawson somehow played on the Marlins for a while.

This is rather amazing. MLB Network starting 64 consecutive hours of Derek Jeter programming tomorrow at 6 a.m. Bob Costas looks back on legendary moments from Jeter’s career throughout the weekend. Coverage includes 13 signature games.

(Now former) Mets minor leaguer Andrew Church was part of the wave of players released and has some harsh words for his former employer.

File away "snakes and bottom feeders" for the next Mets thread title. Not that he's wrong, but what he describes about being jerked around and risking injury likely happens all over baseball.

wow, mostly smaller market teams, too.

This will have to spread. The Yankees aren't going to be able to release their minor leaguers in this situation.

Bravo, indeed. Can’t understand why all teams are so anxious to simply give away their assets when keeping them is so relatively inexpensive.

holy crap. i just did the math. if the phillies have 150 minor leaguers, paying them $400 each for 15 weeks is $900,000. Not too much more than a ML minimum salary.

The only way it makes sense to me is if the owners were to agree not to sign each others’ released players. Of course we know MLB owners would never collude to save a few bucks.
