15:50 genuine LOL

EDIT: I mean holy WOW this thing. Remember how Don Zimmer cried when he got into that barn burner with Pedro and acted like it was inconceivable that he, gentle Don, could ever have lowered himself to get involved in such a tussle? Well...

That was crazy. The umps' inability to make a decision ended up causing a fight. Buried at the end around the 32 minute mark is Eckersley first AB since coming to the NL after the long stint in the AL. Bob Dernier sighting at the end.

Yep. Random YouTube find but very pleased I found it!

If you are missing baseball this Memorial Day weekend, as we (yes, even my wife!) are here, the old-time radio broadcasts available on YouTube are, like, astounding.

For example, the final broadcast of a game featuring the "Brooklyn" Dodgers - albeit on the road - at the Phillies at Connie Mack Stadium is available. Vin Scully sounds as Vin Scully as ever:

I was actually hoping to find a home broadcast of the Philadelphia Athletics (like the Phillies, By Saam called the games), but I couldn't find one. However, here is a Mutual Broadcasting Station national broadcast of a game from Shibe Park between the Indians and Athletics:

And here is a rando game between the Pirates and Phillies from 1975 called by Harry the K:

Much of the 1950 World Series is available (Mel Allen call), as is Jim Bunning's perfect game (Mets broadcast). Haven't found any By Saam yet.

Awesome stuff to throw on in the background using YouTube. I have one of those little adapters so it can come through my wife's "Crosley" radio.

As a Phillies fan I know it is sacrilege but if there is a better sound than Vin Scully calling a ball game in the spring or summer I'd like to hear it.

Scully is good, but Harry and Whitey together were better to listen to, especially for fans who were loyal enough to get all the inside jokes.

Yep, it's great. I listened to the crazy 1979 game at Wrigley, full broadcast including commercials.

I had never seen this (or rather heard this) before, but a mic'd up argument after Thor threw at Utley. Also, never in my life have I ever heard the phrase "Our ass is in the jackpot". Apparently MLB was pretty pissed off this was ever leaked out.

NSFW obv.

i've always doubted they'd play this season and i think they're getting closer to that reality if the owners want the players to take the pay cut proposed today.

Losing an entire season because you couldn’t figure out the money part is reprehensible

Cedric Daniels says “ass in the jackpot” in season one of The Wire. I couldn’t believe it was a thing that people actually said.
Fine. You wanna act like you're two? I'll act like I'm one.

I would not have guessed that Gary Sheffield had more career walks than strikeouts. He did not strike out much at all for a modern day slugger.

Agreed. If you look at the long history of MLB the owners time after time will do stupid things in the name of keeping the players’ salaries as low (relatively) as possible. Often it has taken litigation to overcome the issues.

Definitely can see the NBA and NHL holding playoffs as they look to be to crown champions and I can see the NFL starting on time but baseball would be the one that I can see saying, we'll see you all in March 2021...
Even if you get run over by a clown car and pissed on by a busload of school children, it's still your responsibility to interpret the meaning of the event and choose a response

And ironically MLB is arguably safest since it’s played outdoors.
