No picture of bryant? Sad.

The update we all deserve: The Phillies might play the Rule 5 draft tomorrow. They haven't kept their pick since 2016 (T. Goeddel). Maybe a reliever or a bench player fancies them. The Rule 5 draft rules.
Two days later I get a text back that says I'm a basketball player and a businessman, not a Thundercat.

Klentak says Haseley will likely be the starting CF and basically hinted Odubel won't make the team

For anyone else, Goeddel hasn't appeared in the majors since that year, and with a sub-.600 OPS at AA last year it's doubtful he ever will. The man can throw, though. We'll always have Goeddel to Rupp

I remember thinking Otero sucked but that Midre Cummings was the answer.

I remember me and my buddy got picked to call an inning from press box at the Vet in 1996, and Ricky Otero got an RBI triple, my buddy still has the cassette tape of the inning that they gave us, my only real memory of Ricky Oteto

Probably not the right thread, but feels like in NFL and NBA the cap/tax/etc. shit goes up a lot every year.

In baseball it's below real life inflation looking at Wikipedia. Letting this constrain us would be so dumb. And hopefully in the next CBA players are able to get the luxury tax to move a bit more clearly in line with revenue.

looks to me like the only way to get fully into contention this offseason without going over the cap to sign at least one more starting pitcher (and trade for another) is to trade segura and prospects for bryant and at least half of odubel's contract on someone. of course, no trade of bryant is going to happen until after a ruling on his service time manipulation case lets teams know whether he is under control for two more years or just one.
while we wait...
is bohm a likely enough short and long-term soluton at 3b that there is no point in getting bryant?
is holding back all of our prospect ammo and payroll space for deals for pitching too much of a priority to allow us to give up lots of both for bryant?
which prospects are worth including if it is for one year of bryant, and which for two years?
should bohm be held back as insurance against hoskins not rebounding? or as trade ammunition for a big midsummer deal for a starter from a team that drops out of contention (odorizzi? someone better).
is bohm ready enough and hoskins still valuable enough that we could finish the deal with hoskins instead of bohm?
do we have prospects other than bohm and howard that could get the deal done?

my answers: i think gettting bryant is more clear path to improvement than trading for sp's; i want to keep bohm for both reasons cited above, even though i don't see him as either a short-term or long-term solution at 3b; i think that hoskins doesn't sweeten the deal, but some combo of grullon/maton and a couple of non-howard pitchers from aa or aaa gets it done. for one year, i would give up just one or two non bohm/howard minor leaguers along with segura. for two years i would give up 4.
your answers?
(or do you just want to go back to talking about desi?)

My hesitation on Bryant would be paying him as a 3B when it's unclear how long he plays there.

Olney still has the Phillies in the 3rd base market. Not seeing it.

Maybe if Donaldson’s price comes down.

Front office greenlighting Segura for October of the calendar means we're not trading him

That's almost always been true over the years, the notable exceptions Pence and Victorino
