Girardi was said to have really hit it off w/Phillies owner John Middleton, GM Matt Klentak and others in interviews there. Word is he also liked freedom he’ll have in making out lineup cards and other moves, which isn’t the case everywhere #PhiladelphiaFreedom

This works for me. He's not my favorite manager in the world, but if you decided you wanted somebody with high-level experience, which the Phillies clearly did, he's as solid a hire as you're going to find with those parameters. The power dynamics in this organization are already so screwed up that I don't even know how this plays into it, but that would have been the case for pretty much anyone you hired.
