Can't see it. I think they'd trade him at any cost or release him before that.

Eflin probably stays in the rotation as a bridge to Howard and then filling in for an injured aging pitcher. Hamels makes way too much sense. I just see G. Cole going to the west coast. It'd be great to get Strasburg and I'd settle for Wheeler.

Bumgarner would be a good addition on several levels. First there is the benefit of keeping him out of Atlanta. There is his performance. It’s not what it once was but it isn’t shabby either. WHIP was in the 1.2 ish area last year. He’s a lefty which the rotation lacks. If eighty million over four years gets it done, it would be money well spent.

Something like Wheeler and Pomeranz/Miley/Hill. If we add 2, they'll probably seek out a lefty with one of them.
Klentak said the Phillies need to give Howard an opportunity to pitch at Triple-A Lehigh Valley with the big-league baseballs — something he hasn’t done yet during his professional career — because of the noticeable difference compared to the baseballs used at other minor-league levels. Klentak pointed to the impact the baseballs are having on pitching development. The Phillies want Howard to gain experience using them in game action before joining the big-league rotation.
