Ned Yost just announced he's retiring on Sunday

With Yost and Bochy retiring, the longest-tenured manager is Hurdle (2011), who might get the axe next week

After that, all playoff contenders (Melvin OAK, Francona CLE, Cash TB, Counsell MIL, Hinch HOU, Maddon CHC), then it's another potential axe in Servais, even though he was extended through next year

Respect to Yost for just walking away rather than guys like Bochy who announce before the season, so ESPN and others can suck him off all season long

Imagine the hell it must be being a Twins fan. Your team looks poised to post only its second 100 win season in team history. Thanks to the crummy AL, however, that accomplishment this season will be somewhat less valuable as you’ll be the third of three AL teams to hit the mark, making you the third season, and on a dead-on collision course with another first-round playoff series against guess who? The New York Yankees, the same team that has bounced you unceremoniously in the first round of five of your previous six playoff appearances, dating all the way back to 2003 (the other was a first round division sweep at the hands of another perennial Yankee victim, the Oakland Athletics). We hear about the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry all the time, but on the current baseball landscape, no other fan base must hate, or be psychologically tortured by, the New York Yankees more than the Twins fan base.

And you know damn well it’s going to happen again, because they are frankly better than you.

The agony. The inevitability. I’d think you give just about anything to make the postseason and draw ANY other opponent. The fact that seemingly every time you make it, there they immediately are must be the most frustrating thing in the fucking universe.

Indeed, here is a whole article about it from Sports Illustrated.
"I'm in a bar with the games sound turned off and that Cespedes home run still sounded like inevitability."

Red Sox couldn't beat the Yankees either until they could. Time for the Twins to get it done!

I imagine he didn't go into this year knowing he was going to walk away, and the Royals probably gently told him he was going to be fired if he didn't "retire."

MattEddyBA
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is hitting .274/.342/.439 (108 OPS+) with 15 HR and 69 RBIs. While that may seem ho-hum given the hype, he is a member of an exclusive club.

Vlad Jr. has one of just 39 player seasons of 500 PA by a 20U hitter since integration.

The top 25 sorted by OPS+

pretty good list to be on

Great line from that:

For almost the entire 21st century the Bronx Bombers have had Minnesota's number, and that number is still stored in a Nokia flip phone.

Then I thought about it -- did Nokia ever make flip phones?

Tigers clinched the #1 pick in the 2020 draft, and the Orioles clinched #2

You think so? Looking into it, he only signed for this season and is 64, so they couldn't really fire him either way.

They're rebuilding (or even just losing) so I don't think they have any reservations about him as a manager
