So you'd better appreciate each game on it's own merits. If you become fixated on titles won and the "larger significance" of games, you're almost certain to end up disappointed, grumpy or bored most of the time since, let's face it, virtually all of them are "meaningless" in that context. Yet fans of baseball, even of those teams with even less success than the Phillies, still enjoy the game, since even after a lifetime of watching games it's amazing how often you can still be surprised or pleased by something that happens, and you never would have seen if you'd stopped paying attention.

It's going to be glorious watching spoiled Pittsburgh fans realize this if Big Ben is cooked (or they have no top level receivers), once Sidney and Evgeni decline, and the Pirates continue to be the Pirates.

Steelers have been mediocre for a while now. Those diehard Pens will forget the team exist again like after Mario.

1981-1991 that's the very definition of mediocre. 10 years 84-84, four playoffs, three losing seasons.

1981-1991 is a time frame. Not a definition of mediocre.
