-- The Mariners (1988) still haven't won a World Series or an AL pennant and haven't been to the playoffs since 2001
-- The Rockies (1993) still haven't won a World Series, won a division title or lost an NLCS, and haven't won a playoff series since their 2007 NL pennant
-- The Rays (1998) still haven't won a World Series

-- The Indians haven't won a World Series since 1948 and haven't lost an ALCS since 2007
-- The Pirates haven't won a World Series or an NL pennant since 1979 and haven't reached the NLCS since 1992 (the last time they won a division title)
-- The Orioles haven't won a World Series or an AL pennant since 1983
-- The Tigers haven't won a World Series since 1984
-- The Mets haven't won a World Series since 1986
-- The Dodgers haven't won a World Series since 1988
-- The Athletics haven't won a World Series since 1989, haven't won an AL pennant since 1990 and haven't reached an ALCS since 2006
-- The Reds haven't won a World Series or an NL pennant since 1990 and haven't won a playoff series since 1995
-- The Twins haven't won a World Series or an AL pennant since 1991 and haven't reached the ALCS since 2002
-- The Blue Jays haven't won a World Series or an AL pennant since 1993
-- The Braves haven't won a World Series since 1995, haven't won an NL pennant since 1999 and haven't won a playoff series since 2001
-- The Marlins (1993) still haven't won a division title or lost an NLCS, haven't been to the playoffs since their 2003 championship and haven't had a winning record since 2009

-- The Royals haven't lost an ALCS since 1984
-- The Giants haven't lost an NLCS since 1987
-- The White Sox haven't lost an ALCS since 1993 and haven't been to the playoffs since 2008

-- The PHILLIES haven't had a winning record since 2011

The Red Sox have fired Dave Dombrowski less than a year after winning a World Series.

The Phillies should take note. Matt Klentak had more than enough time. This is how championship organizations operate. If you don't get the job done, you gotta go. Unless you have historical accomplishments, and deserve the benefit of the doubt over the long haul, every manager and executive in baseball should be fighting for their job on a year to year basis.

Seems like a bit of an overreaction on the Red Sox part.
Two days later I get a text back that says I'm a basketball player and a businessman, not a Thundercat.

Maybe, but it's a culture of accountability you create that runs through from the top down. I love it. They don't accept mediocrity on any level. Even less than a year after winning it all.

See now, and the lesson I was going to draw from BigEd's wonderfully researched post was that championships come along for most teams once in a blue moon. So you'd better appreciate each game on it's own merits. If you become fixated on titles won and the "larger significance" of games, you're almost certain to end up disappointed, grumpy or bored most of the time since, let's face it, virtually all of them are "meaningless" in that context. Yet fans of baseball, even of those teams with even less success than the Phillies, still enjoy the game, since even after a lifetime of watching games it's amazing how often you can still be surprised or pleased by something that happens, and you never would have seen if you'd stopped paying attention.

Next season at this time after a similar season? Okay. Red Sox just dominated the sport. Absurd.

I, too, wish Phillies ownership were reactionary assholes. Love to root for that.

Posted this on the first page before Thanksgiving, looks like it'll still be true :(

that does not at all preclude the phillies from winning multiple playoff series this season

yes, I really hope Middleton is an irrational owner that thinks he knows more than the people he hired and accepts nothing but a world series every single year :q

They're WAY over the luxury tax. Paid Eovaldi rather than Kimbrel, and now their bullpen is a mess. When they gave Sale that big extension, I assumed that meant he was healthy. Maybe not so much. Still have to pay Mookie, and eventually Bogaerts and Devers.
(Brandy) only hinted at Halladay's personal issues during her Hall of Fame speech last July, when she said, "Roy would want everyone to know that people are not perfect. We're all imperfect and flawed in one way or another. We all struggle."

Yeah, I was just coming back to edit that

Thinking they don't sign or trade Mookie before he hits the market or trade JD Martinez... probably the latter

Thought I saw someone write that Mookie doesn’t want a long deal until he hits the market

I mean down years happen. Especially in baseball.
"I've always thought that the six months during the baseball season there was something in the day that wasn't there the other six months in winter. It was not that you had to listen to the game, but that you could, if you needed it."

I am glad you are so confident. 7-13 or worse seems entirely doable.
