he probably shouldn't have added that "NO!" after the first line.

I know plenty of people have expressed plenty of skepticism about defensive WAR, but I want to throw on the pile in the form of a question. Because of some laudatory quotations concerning Willie Mays I came across on Facebook, who I have always thought to be slightly overrated when compared to his great peers (although there was no doubt he was great, but people go on and on and on about Willie Mays and Mickey Mantle, while not so much about Hank Aaron, for example), I decided to check out his WAR, figuring since he was so famous for his defense, that must be something I should be paying attention to. And indeed it is good, not Andruw Jones good but good, but it got me to thinking: how on Earth can defensive WAR from times when essentially no video evidence exists really have all that much meaning? The numbers seem so precise, but what on earth could the really be measuring? I want this explained.

I suppose it has to do with number of balls hit to CF in a given season and how many are put outs and how many land for singles, etc., but I would have to think this data for pre-1970 or even pre- pretty much the dawn of "every out of every game recorded" is sketchy at best.

If one was inclined to check the BSG tape they’d find an army of 1 (here) calling for klentak to pick up his option after he went on season ending DL because his stuff was so nasty in the few starts he had for us. Would have had a big year if he’d stayed healthy

The Padres will be unveiling their new brown/yellow logo and uniforms on November 9

AND SPEAKING OF THE PADRES....

Jacob Nix was kicked and tazed after trying to break into a home through a doggie door

2017 12th-rd pick Tom Cosgrove was also involved in the potential break-in and pulled Nix out of the door

Looks like there will be an announcement in the next 1-2 weeks about the Frontier League (9 teams) and Can-Am League (6 teams) merging into one bigger independent league

Can-Am = 2 New Jersey, 1 New York, 1 Ontario, 2 Quebec
Frontier = 1 Pennsylvania, 1 Ohio, 1 Indiana, 1 Kentucky, 5 Illinois

The best thing I can say about this is that it made me ask, "Why do they call it the 'missionary position, anyway?'", and it turns out the term was actually coined by Kinsey, apparently because of a group of interrelated misunderstandings on his part about native tribes of the Trobriand Islands and how or when they knew first knew of this position.

But, in reading about it, I also found this marvelous tidbit:

In addition to humans, the missionary position has also been used by certain other species, including bonobos, gorillas, and armadillos.

One of these things does not belong here.
