why a tourney, why not a 1/2 cash game, the fish are so omnipresent at the Borgata.

We will be at the Borgata on Saturday night but I don't think we'll be doing much gambling there. The tournaments are also too expensive for most of the people attending the party. Depending on how tournament stuff goes (if I busto early), I could end up playing some cash at Borgata before the day is over though.

Because
1) The guy getting married I'm pretty sure would prefer a tournament
2) I enjoy tournaments more
3) If people want to play cash, they can do that, I'm not going to force anyone to play a tournament

I realize I said next week, but it's actually this week. This Friday, I don't think this group will want to do much gambling really, my poker buddies(that one guy that you beat headsup plus another) can't go this weekend so I'm going with some friends from Philly...and they aren't very good at poker or gambling.

Still going to be fun.

still a long way off and i haven't even contemplated who will be invited yet. i'm pretty sure it will be a lot of people because my fraternity brothers have started the tradition of pretty much inviting almost everyone you were in school with even if they won't be invited to the wedding, plus i have a bunch of local friends, plus high school friends i'm still close with, poker buddies, relatives, etc. i'm really looking forward to seeing what my brother and friends come up with for me, especially after they experience the awesome weekend i have arranged for my best friend.

Man, they really bumped their fees. When I played in my first tourney last April it was $60 + $15 for the 7pm seating. I just checked and now it is $105 + $20. Yikes!

Had my aces hold up against kings in a hundred dollar hand. Always a nice feeling.

I honestly don't think I've ever won a hand with pocket aces. I actually prefer not to have them; they always give me the misguided feeling of invulnerability.

The thing with aces is that they usually don't pay off this big and in most cases will win you a small pot and can definitely lose you a big pot. (but it doesnt happen as often as you think)

The scenario from yesterday:

cash game FTP .50/1 blinds 6 handed NLHE, I was MP Villian was UTG

UTG player raises to 4.

UTG+1 folds

UTG player was mostly tight from what I saw, I have A:c: A:d: so I raise it up to 10, I don't want anyone else in the pot and I think Villian will call here or even raise, even if he folds, Im fine with winning the 5.50.

Button folds, and the blinds fold as expected.

Villian calls.

Flop: 7:c: 7:s: 6:s:

Not the best flop, but unless Villian has pocket 6's or 7's (unlikely), I'm ahead here, even if he has A:s:K:s:

Villian checks.

I think Villian is either going for a check raise or is check folding, either way I'm gold. I bet about 3/4 of the pot and bet 16.

Villian immediately goes all in. ($88 total)

The immediacy here tells me that he isnt even thinking about it and already planned the check raise. Unless he's crafty with the 6's or 7's, I put him on Kings or Queens and call.

Villian shows Kings with one being a spade.

Turn was 3:s: (YIKES!)
River was a safe 6:d:

Hero wins a nice big pot.

:-D :-D

Nicely played.

Ironically, it seems as though his big mistake was raising in 1st position. To my ultra-amateur poker mind, that tells me that he has a high pocket pair or two high cards (that raise seems too high for a medium pair or for an Ax). In your position, I'd still rather not see the 7s on the flop but his 1st position raise of 4 times the BB gives you relative confidence that he doesn't have A7 ready to crush you.

Or am I just blowing smoke?

It was only 6 handed, so he was risking a bunch of limpers with his Kings unless he raised and Im sure he didnt want that. Most online players dont seem to care about position, which is fine by me.
