He digs it. He'll be able to join the High School team next year when he's in 9th grade; a team that made it to States this year (North Penn). The coach has been eye-balling him for 2 years and he's losing two seniors. I'm not sure if I have more fun bowling myself, or watching him. We both started together over winter break three years ago. I had done intramurals in High school one year before that, otherwise recreation only (and seldom).

You're right. North Penn, despite its size, does not have a huge rush of kids going out for bowling. The coach is counting on him as one of the replacements for his two lost seniors.
But going back to your earlier point, attitude and composure are huge parts of the game, especially in that environment. It is actually one of his biggest strengths; very even keel. If he shows ANY kind of emotion at a tournament (like half a frown), people are surprised. But I also see some kids who are tremendously talented who have absolutely no hold on their emotions and won't listen at all. They can melt down and take themselves out of a game at the snap of a finger. Talent is important, but the mental game may be even more important, especially when the competition gets higher. And he's also had a lot of experience now on challenge shots thanks to PJBT. The NP squad did very poorly at States primarily (IMO) because those kids had zero experience on challenge patterns and were just overwhelmed by it.
I will be there next year encouraging them to at least hit up Sunday tournaments when there is a challenge shot.
