bowling (OT)

60 feet of lane

oil can be anything from as short as 32 feet down teh lane to almost 50 feet down the lane. this completely changes EVERYTHING, and requires completely different approaches. bowling is just one big physics experiment. you need to get the ball in the correct spot in order to hit the pocket at the correct angle in order for hte pins to fall down in the correct manner. bowling balls on a completely dry lane would hook into the gutter about 20 feet after you let it go, so oil delays the reaction and creates the difficulty.

that's what i mean.

A girl in Lakewood recently became the youngest to bowl an 800 series...she is 12!!

I might reconsider going back in the fall.

I haven't bowled in years, but I was in a league from grades 7-11. I still have my yellow dot ball somewhere. If there's anyone on here from the Middletown area, I used to bowl at Middletown Lanes, which was used by some local bowlers to sandbag local tournaments because the lanes were harder than most lanes. I would have a 180 average there and then go to a handicap tournament and get more handicap pins than I would have if I bowled at a regular lanes. I got a few trophies that way, though I just bowled there because it was right down the street from my house and I couldn't drive yet.

Of course, a lot has changed since then. The balls and pins are different, making higher scores easier, though 800 is still kinda ridiculous. I can't imagine throwing an 800. I threw one 700 in a tournament in Camp Hill. I think I still have a patch somewhere.

Middletown Lanes was also my first job. I cleaned it on weekends in exchange for minimum wage and free bowling. You could smoke in the lanes back then and half the mess was cleaning about a billion cigarette butts and all the other stuff that goes along with it. Disgusting job, but it seemed worth it for the $3.15/hr and free bowling at the time.

844

Sweet mother Mary. Bowling is one sport I suck at and I don't think practice would make me much better. I either pick things up pretty much right away or don't. I love bowling but I am pretty sure my highest ever was like 150's. I am usually content to break the 100. Luckily none of the people I've bowled with are any good. I remember a few years ago my sister got a 17. The 17 will always stick in my and many others minds. It's like the *61. She is even a pretty good athlete but that was great to see.
Do it again!

Well, I've never had a whole lot of success on Viper(Cheetah and Chameleon are my favorites). Not knowing exactly how you throw the ball, I would say your best bet is to start off playing an outside line, without much swing, and as the oil breaks down move deper inside and swing the ball toward the dry area. Probably don't want to use a whole lot of surface, as with only 37 feet of oil the ball may "roll out" before the pocket and lose hitting power. Probably something with the pin above the fingers, to help get the ball down the lane.

Are you bowling in a PBA Experience league, or is this for a tournament?

Kelly Kulick became the first woman to win a mens' PBA Tour championship, winning the Tournament of Champions in Vegas.

I've met Kelly, and bowled with her a few times. Amazing bowler, and a very person as well. I'm so happy for her.
