McCutchen isn't a CF anymore, maybe for a spot start here and there, but not a full-timer. He's definitely destined for one of the corners.

That’s exactly my point!

seemed like you were talking about odouble!

Guess I need to slow down. The reason to get rid of o’dubes now is because Cutch can really only play a corner. Since o’dubes can’t play a decent CF anymore, signing Cutch makes him more expendable than ever.

I'm just curious, what makes you think Herrera "can't play CF anymore?" He's 26 years old. Kapler hinted maybe he wasn't in the best shape this season, but I didn't hear this kind of stuff in 2017. He definitely needs to drop some weight, but I don't see how that disqualifies him from CF forever.

Seems like the hot stove people don’t know much. A million names attached to the Phillies and barely heard AMAC come up.
Two days later I get a text back that says I'm a basketball player and a businessman, not a Thundercat.

he had what we thought was an awful year and was slightly below league average offensively. if he rebounds to his career defensive numbers he's back to a 3-4 win player.

Don’t be disingenuous and pretend you didn’t see what Herrera became the last 4 months of 2018. It’s the difference between a player of unproven ability and another of proven inability.

I'm not arguing he wasn't bad. Obviously he was. But I don't know why you're taking a four-month sample and just completely writing off the four years that preceded it where he proved that he does have ability, and above-average ability at that. If he was in his mid-30's, I'd agree with you, but he's 26 years old, I think it's far more possible that he could return to being an above average producer. He's obviously a streaky player, and often times, frustratingly so. But 26 year olds with a successful track record of playing CF don't grow on trees and you certainly don't get them for $5 million.

And I'm not even that high on him. If they want to replace him, go for it. But I think replacing him with Quinn just because is just begging for disaster. It's just basic roster management. If somebody wants to give you something of value for Odubel, I'm all ears. But there's nothing forcing you to move on from him right now other than the fact that you don't like him.

I'd be ok individually with giving Herrrera, Quinn or Williams a chance to start, but collectively they had to be one of the worst OFs in baseball. Adding McCutchen to the top of the depth chart makes it a lot better. I'd still like them to sign 2 more position players, hopefully Machado and Harper

Geez, Phillies fans are a sour bunch. I don't mean you guys, I treasure every one of you. But reactions on twitter are about equal to if we'd re-signed Delmon Young.

I think we've gotten significantly better at ss, 1b and lf (or right) so far this winter. I still really want want Harper and of course would like Machado. But McCutheon is a great add to the outfield. He's older but not old-could fall off a cliff, but so could anyone.

Eno Sarris@enosarris

Andrew McCutchen was a value free agent for me this year. https://theathletic.com/639898/2018/11/ ... -by-value/ … I see the same things that made me like Curtis Granderson signing for the Mets: a balanced skill set that will allow him many different ways to help the team even as his tools decline.

11 players in 2018 were above average by power (ISO), speed (10+SBs), plate discipline (K% & BB%), & defensive value (>-10): Trout, Betts, Yelich, Bregman, Jose Ramirez, Machado, Freeman, Lindor, Hicks, Benintendi & Andrew McCutchen.

So the braves got donaldson for 1 year and a little over 20. We're paying Mclutch for 3 years and about 17 per year.

We'll see how everything else shakes out because that will determine how I feel about it, but this deal seems too long for that AAV given the donaldson deal. Maybe other deals will be like this this offseason. If so, then it is what it is. Not much to compare it to at this point.

Cutch was in my top 3 favorite non-Phillies, along Trout and Mookie. I know he's no longer an MVP candidate, but he's still pretty damn good.
(Brandy) only hinted at Halladay's personal issues during her Hall of Fame speech last July, when she said, "Roy would want everyone to know that people are not perfect. We're all imperfect and flawed in one way or another. We all struggle."

Hard to say. I love the signing on a one year deal though. If they don't play well and he's healthy, they'll also get a nice prospect in return for him at the deadline.
