purely a corner outfielder now, but yeah. stick him in LF and he'll have a 350 OBP with some pop

People really surprised about the money here? They paid Jeremy Hellickson and AJ Burnett like $15 million a year many moons ago, this is nothing

Thank goodness we have Middleton's money, because I just don't trust Klentak at all. I mean one year removed from last offseason and he basically was trying to undo everything he did. Shopping Neshek, Santana, and Hunter... and you know they would trade Arrieta in a heartbeat if he had even an ounce of trade value.

I'll give him the Segura move, it was a good one, but this seems like a repeat of the Santana deal. Sign a player past his prime to an expensive contract. I just don't like signing older players. Hope he works out.

At least this one plays the right position/was better in his prime/is cheaper.

He may not be toast yet, but he's getting a little crusty around the edges.

Cutch is still a god in Pittsburgh, by the way. I had such a good time at PNC last year for the Phils series I'm thinking I'll be making a return trip

Welcome to MLB free agency. Pretty much everybody who reaches free agency is either at the tail end of their prime or past it. That's what makes Machado and Harper so unique.

Wonder how many Phils fans think we just signed him away from Pittsburgh

I'm assuming this makes them more likely to sign Machado. If we trade one of the other starting outfielders, I could still see Harper and Machado.

Any way you slice it, having Jean Segura and Andrew McCutchen in this lineup makes you instantly more competitive.

I think Salisbury gets his info mainly from the Phillies and the national guys mainly get their info from agents and other executives.

Joelsherman1
When this offseason was 1st projected to be biggest for free agents ever, McCutchen was huge star. But over time lost ability to play CF/hit with huge impact. Still high OBP, some power/speed, ability to play corner OF. Translates to 3-yr deal, not mega-deal
