I hit that point in November. It was a painfully boring and awful product to watch. It was no longer must-see TV for me. Picked back up a bit during the nice stretch they had, but I can't imagine people are thrilled to watch Matt Read, Jori Lehtera, Andrew MacDonald, Brandon Manning, Dale Weise, and Val Filppula. And two middling goaltenders.

100% agree.

I didn't watch a game from start to finish this year, and I am a guy who literally did not miss a Flyers game from the inception of Comcast Sportsnet until probably around the mid-2000's. It's a wretched product that Hextall has put on the ice. There is literally nothing going on.

Except they were exciting at times. Elliot had stretches of looking really good, Giroux re-surged, Coots broke out, the rookies were exciting once they developed and got some ice time. It was the perfect encapsulation of this year - stretches of utter garbage and glimmers of hope: the 2017-18 Philadelphia Flyers.

They were and that's why I came back, I had written them off when they went through a particularly boring stretch, but when they started clicking I came back around. In the past I've pretty consistently watched, but this version of the team can get uninteresting, at least to me, for long stretches.

Also, since Hakstol will probably be here next year, Lappy needs to be out as PK coach. We have been awful under him regardless of player or goalie, so it's definitely a scheme thing. As awesome as blocking shots are, it kind of puts the goalie behind the cue ball if they're being screened by their own players.

Agree with this. I have never seen a team get possession of the puck so little when they are a man down. Delayed penalties almost double the length of the actually man advantage.

But he took a puck to the face once and is a Flyers hero, can't fire him

This is the least amount of hockey I've watched in my life. I miss the Lavvy days cause they were at least exciting

He'll be promoted to player development or some other random front office role (also he is a Flyers hero, that tough son of a bitch).

Also, as uneven/unexciting as this season has been at times... this could be the most exciting offseason since 2012. We should be rumored in/around a lot of top talent. Our goalie situation will still be sucky (unless Carter Hart decides his time is now and destroys camp) next season but we can fill in a lot of holes at center depth... then again, we could extend Manning and keep the other dreck around.

What were you expecting from this season going into it? Did you really think they were going to beat the Pens in the playoffs?

They're more than likely going to make a push for John Tavares or a top 4 defensemen, either answers a huge hole (center depth, top end defense). The Flyers are closer than a lot of people believe, it's just a matter if they take the steps.

I think that's exciting, being at the precipice. I'm probably building up for disappointment, but I'm still looking forward to it.

Almost every team is going to be in on Tavares, so I don't think that is going to happen. Maybe trading some young guys in the system could yield them a top 4 defensemen though.

They fucking fired Bill Barber like 3 months after his wife died of lung cancer and he coached through it and the flyers finished in first place in the Atlantic.

LOL.........they are not remotely close to winning anything. Their compete level against Pittsburgh was beyond embarrassing. 0-3 at home while giving up 18 goals. Cup.......ours!

Hextall isn't going to sign anyone. The minute he makes any move of significance he knows he is on the clock. They'll pretend to be involved with the big names and then feign shock when they sign elsewhere. He'll stick to "ze plan" and assure everyone they will be cup contenders by 2025.

Hextall is a draft / development guy masquerading as a GM. I would normally want him to try to move Giroux, Simmonds or Voracek this offseason, but judging by every player trade he's made, it would be a disaster.

The scholarship money Hakstol saved him should be about even, so maybe he goes.

Didn't see it mentioned, but Provorov's shoulder injury was a Grade 3 separation and he started losing feeling in his arm in the third period. Recovery after surgery is 6-8 weeks

John Boruk

Simmonds also pulled a groin and broke his ankle along with the pelvic injury.

John Boruk

Wayne Simmonds dealt with a torn pelvis in training camp and “didn’t play up to expectations” this year. Would have been out 4-6 weeks.

seems pretty dumb not to just sit out the 4-6 weeks.

Yeah if it happening in training camp definitely. If it happened in March then yeah try to play through it. Doesn't seem right.
