Mainly Savior is the one that pins it on Giroux.

Save those hard stats for WIP tomorrow morning. Who the hell uses +/- anymore outside of Sam Carchidi.

Giroux is on the list of why they lost, probably right behind Hakstol, Goaltending, and Defense, but he isn't the list like you think. He wasn't on the ice for 40 of the 60 minutes today. If Gudas doesn't make terrible plays on 2 goals in the 2nd we may be talking about how they can win a game 7.

Are goals scored not a hard stat? What about assists?

G was mugged in every game without any protection from the officials. We saw that especially today with Letang cross checking him at will and then G getting clobbered by three Penguins after the hit on Hagland. If the Flyers had been allowed to deal with Crosby in the same manner, he would have had the same stats as G. It's bogus to rip Giroux. Now if you want to discuss Jake, Ghost, Gudas and a few others, that's legitimate.

i think giroux could have played better, but he ran into essentially what he runs into every playoff. teams can expend more energy on shutting down the top line because they have no depth. then hakstol moves raffl to his line for the first few games and takes coots off his line for the last few.

I agree, other teams focus on him and his line and if they aren't scoring on the PP ( I heard they were 2-20 during the game this series) it is going to tough for him to be a scoring threat.

I guess people get on him because he is the Captain and maybe if Jake was the captain he would hear it just as much. Simmonds was a shell of himself this series, Provorov was playing with 1 arm, Ghost had a bad series. Hopefully they can build upon this and get some better scoring depth but that is up to Hextall.

Also think people get on him because he's compared against the opponent's best player(s) and he's just not Crosby or Malkin.

Bitching about offense in a game they lost 8-5 is kinda nuts. I think there are some fundamental problems with the way the flyers are built, e.g. they don’t have a goalie and half of the defense is really bad. There is a lot of talent in the forwards, due to redundancy and the fact that the d and goalies are not good the forwards talent is diminished. I think some changes are in order, personally I wouldn’t blow it up, we all knew coming in that the Pens were the absolute worst matchup we could get, and here we are, took them to game 6 and scored 5 goals and lost. We swept the leafs this year in the regular season took 2 of 3 from the caps, went 1-2 against Tampa and got swept by the pens. Feel like we would have had a chance in any of the other matchups, but this was just a shit matchup. Don’t be crazy.
man I drew all these penises for nothing - housh

Normally I'd be fuming with an overall embarrassing loss to the Penguins, but this series had no business even going 6

Hakstol is way more to blame than Hextall, but if Hextall isn't going to fucking fire Hak, he has to stop enabling him by acquiring garbage veterans as throw-ins in literally every trade, and he needs to let Hak's pets walk this off-season

Hextall needs to either acquire legitimate depth for this team, tell Hakstol he has to bury garbage vets clearly acquired to just balance money, or both

Like, I can even live with MacDonald as a third-pairing D-man. It becomes a big problem when the second pair is fucking Manning and Gudas

So one of the things I never learned to do is iceskate, which is ok because I don't really have any desire to do it.

That said, I feel like I could score on the flyers.

so the options going forward:

stay the course and try and surround the veteran core with up and coming prospects. The problem with this is that their best prospects right now are defensemen who can take YEARS to develop

blow up the current roster and plan around the arrival of the next franchise goalie. Trade Giroux and plan around Hart's arrival
I would rather see you lose than win myself

I was going to write a defense of Brian Elliot, and our goaltending situation since it's low hanging fruit to point too - especially if you only casually follow the team until the playoffs. Elliot, pre-injury, was having the type of year that may have resulted in stealing a series or two. He was streaky, so his overall numbers didn't look great, but when he was hot he was "good enough."

I say was going to write, because this just reminded me of another one of Hakstol's problems - he runs old/average goalies into the ground. The Flyers obvious plan the past few years for goalies has been tandem 1A/1B guys (or 2A/2B if you want to be sassy), but he will continually "ride the hot hand" and run a goalie out there consistently until they break down. This makes me fear what he would do to Carter Hart if given the chance (thankfully, Hart is young and will sit behind Brian Boucher coming out of retirement).

Also as frustrating as this season has been, and as irritating it is to lose to the Pens like we did (even if they are vastly superior in depth/talent, fuck them), it has been a generally positive season. I have reservations on whether these positives will lead to anything else because of who is helming the ship..

This season we saw the emergence of Coots, Giroux' resurgence, the young talent thrive when given the opportunity, and Ghost turning into a much better defender. Hopefully anything counter to these positives that we saw in the playoffs were a fluke and a result of being outmatched.

I'm excited to rip the MacDonald, Gudas and Manning band-aids off. If any of those guys are here next year it's unacceptable.

Provorov/Ghost
Sanheim/FA
Hagg/Morin/Myers

Just get it done, Hexy.
