knapp and alfaro are what?

I'm just saying that if technology has come up with a concussion-proof mask then why not?

i don't think he or the team will risk it based on a new mask that might or might not prevent a concussion. that's all. as far as alfaro and knapp, i assume the org sees them as the catchers of the future, not tommy joseph.

He's probably going to bounce around the league being that cheap stop gap solution as a below average right handed first baseman. Or he could be an average defensive catcher with above average offense. The second scenario most definitely will pay better. I don't know about the risks or the testing with this new helmet/face mask, but I'm kind of terrified if someone sneezes next to him he will get a concussion. That's his decision but I would welcome a move back behind the plate.

even if there is a concussion-resistant mask on the horizon, it's more than likely targeted to those who haven't had one before. Remember the tale of #88- once you've had a few concussions, doesn't take much for another. I don't think any mask in the world can help someone like that with a high degree of confidence.

Yeah, concussion-resistant mask sounds a lot like clean coal.

I sure hope neither the team or joseph is thinking about that.

If your head slams into the ground or a player running at you, your brain is going to bounce around in your skull no matter what. The only way to prevent concussions in those cases would be to increase the distance between your head and the object at impact.

Actually what might work is airbags that deploy right before there's an impact. Maybe google can start working on that.

Galvis having a pretty decent year - I wouldn't be surprised if his career with the team ends up being longer than Franco or Herrera

I could definitely see that. He's good defensively, limited offensively, but has some decent pop and is fairly consistent year to year with it. He's not a star by any means but he's the kind of guy that provides value with his versatility. Franco and Herrera are boom/ bust guys and if they aren't hitting, they are worthless. Could see Galvis being a rich mans Andy White

If he could get his OBP to even a modest .320 - .330 he'd be a very valuable SS.

If I had it my way in 2018

Cf Quinn
2B Kingery
1b Hoskins
3b Moustakas
Rf Altherr
LF Williams
C Knapp
SS Galvis

I would actually really like for Cesar Hernandez to start but I'm not sure where he would play

I'm not interested in laying a lot of money on Moustakas. He is better than Franco right now but not so much better that I would be interested in doing a long term, major money deal with him. Machado is a different story when he comes up for FA.
Tonight the Braves are trying Freddie Freeman at 3B. It might be worth while to see if Joseph could handle the position. Then have Hoskins at 1B.

Mitch Walding at Reading is starting to knock the cover off the ball. Decent defensive 3rd baseman.

Already the same age as Maikel and still at AA
