Vernon Wells contract makes me laugh every time I see it. He is, at this moment, John Mayberry a few years older and makes 21M a season

This was the original Not the Ryan Howard Fiasco if I remember correctly.

Ryan Zimmerman 3b
6 years/$100M (2014-19), plus 2020 option

6 years/$100M (2014-19), plus 2020 club option
signed extension with Washington 2/26/12
14-18:$14M annually. 19:$18M, 20:$18M club option ($2M buyout)
5 year/$10M personal-services contract, to begin once playing career ends
no-trade protection, beginning in 2014
if traded in 2012-13, salaries increase to $16M in 2014 and $18M in 2015-18, with 2019 and 2020 option unchanged and personal-services contract voided

It doesn't seem too bad in terms of $$ especially relative to the other deals and considering likelihood of inflation over the next 8 years. However, the number of years with decent if not outrageous salary for a 27 year old 3Bman who has already shown some decline and injury problems is going to look bad eventually.

full no-trade protection

I'll give the Yanks credit... unlike the normal awful contracts, they front-loaded the A-Rod contract (except for deferring $3MM of the signing bonus to 2014). Can you imagine if the $30MM+ seasons were on the back end? Good god.

Not really in the fiasco category but this one looks pretty bad. OPS+ of 92 for $13 Mil. Walk rate is the best of his career but his power is way down.

Among other things, Reyes has higher slugging percentage than Howard in each of the last two years. Reyes is a younger, immensely superior player to Howard and I would make that trade straight up even if I had to kick in $20m.
I know what you're asking yourself and the answer is yes. I have a nick name for my penis. Its called the Octagon, but I also nick named my testes - my left one is James Westfall and my right one is Doctor Kenneth Noisewater.
