The Hosmer deal was an overpay from the start. The other 2 are somewhat defensible.

I'll say it again-I'd rather 2 Charlie Mortons than pay Gerrit Cole for what he did this year.
(Brandy) only hinted at Halladay's personal issues during her Hall of Fame speech last July, when she said, "Roy would want everyone to know that people are not perfect. We're all imperfect and flawed in one way or another. We all struggle."

For the state of the Philies rotation it's a sound idea. If you're implying Gerrit is a 1 year wonder then I think you're off-base.

Does he have a twin we can sign?

Yeah, more prompted by the fact that Myers jumps from 5.5 in 2019 to 22.5 next year, and Machado from 12 to 32. Hosmer was already overpaid at 21 and just continues to be so.The chance to garner much surplus value from the first two has certainly gone out the window, though.

Definitely more the former than the latter. Although I think he's unlikely to match this year's production again. I just feel we're better off spreading that money around a little bit, rather than tying it up in one arm.

Jayson Stark via Athletic tweeting out a quiz: "The highest-paid player in baseball this year will make $22 million...

Who is it? "

Think I see who it is from the responses, but I never would have guessed otherwise.

[Reveal] Spoiler:
He's not actually a "player" right now is he? Thought he was released.

Did we save money by not releasing Odubel this way? Are we only paying a % of his salary since he accepted the minor league assignment vs Prince Fielder who was outright released?
Why not just go storm Normandy and get shot in the face while you're at it
Why not get a plumbing license and run around high on shrooms stealing peoples' pocket change

[Reveal] Spoiler:
His release means that he's owed 100% of his salary and it won't be prorated, which is why he's number 1; whether that means he's a player or not is another subject
