As far as I am concerned, the unchallengeable champion* of these things at this point is Miguel Cabrera. He is out for the season. Maybe that is good if the Tigers are insured.

Rest of 2018: ~$15M

2019: $30M

2020: $30M

2021: $30M

2022: $32M

2023: $32M

2024: $8M (buyout - if they picked up the option, hahahahahahahaha, it would be another $22M - for $30M total)

In case you are wondering he is 35 today, turns 36 in April. Has 5 more guaranteed seasons at $32.4M AAV, $162M remaining.

*That is, until the Phillies sign Bryce Harper for 12/$480M or whatever.

His play on the Alfaro grounder yesterday looked like a 45 year old playing slow pitch softball with the kids on the 4th of July. The only way he could have given less effort would have been if he was holding a beer in his non glove hand and decided just to let the ball go so he didn't spill it.

I'd take Davis off their hands if they throw in Machado.

Yeah, seriously. At that point *if* Machado resigns, you are effectively paying $70 mil a year for Machado '19-'23.

Taking Davis for 2 months of Machado is really dumb.

and if he doesn't, you're paying roughly $3M per game for machado for the balance of the 2018 season.

And the hits keep coming!

Chris Davis ties Cal Ripken Jr.'s Orioles all-time strikeout record — in 2,029 fewer games

I would take the next two years of Davis' salary if it meant we had to give up nothing for machado, but the last few years would hurt us too much to do the whole thing
