How does being a DH get factored into fielding WAR? Is it just set to 0?

Yes, but the positional penalty for DH is severe and is a bigger penalty, generally, than poor fielding.

Well that's good that they factored that in. So if ARod becomes a full time DH in the future, that will be a big hit to his WAR compared to playing mostly 3B even if his hitting improves.

I'm not sure how the WAR calc works, but AROD has better wOBA, so the difference in WAR can't all be Defense and position. He's been better regardless of position.

Unless I'm reading them wrong, the wOBAs and wRCs are very very similar

Yeah, I don't like WAR at all for that reason. Rather just look at the wOBA and judge defense in a less "objective" manner

I think looking at it as 5 to 1 kind of inflates the difference. A-Rod hasn't been great the past few years. Howard putting up worse numbers at a much easier position and running like he's got a piano on his back makes a big difference.
