Not just Fielder and Pujols worse than Howard but BSG pin up boys Choo and Upton. Hamilton one spot behind him

IMO, Choo rebounds to an above .800 OPS. Fielder rebounds too. Hamilton will stay around mid-700s OPS in only around 350 PAs. And Upton is awful.

The only reason anyone's ahead of Howard this year is length of time remaining on the contract. OK, maybe BJ Upton is worse.

The list is fucked IMO because I'd trade Howard and his 2/60 for ARod and his 3/61 in a New York minute.

IDK, with the incentives in his deal that go above the 3/61, he is going to be more expensive.

Seems like a completely viable element to ranking "the worst contracts in baseball"

Yeah, it's the worst contracts right now, not the worst contracts of the past decade.

Pujols and Miggy will be vying for the #1 spot within two years.

Lots of long term big buck contracts out there and it's getting more popular. Looks like Amaro and Howard were pioneers.
Teams lie, sometimes for good reasons, sometimes for bad. They do it to get an advantage while they look at the trade market or just because they can

FTR, I never wanted Bourn on anything more than a 2-or-3-year bargain deal and was only reluctantly interested in Upton (but certainly not for 5/$75M). I'm sure I was an idiot about someone else on that list though. Probably Hamilton. I think I ultimately said fuck it and went all-in on him, but wasn't happy about it.

In terms of "worst contract at the time they were given with no second-guessing or hindsight allowed" no one can beat Rube and Popo
