It's unfortunate about the run that was scored, but it can't be seen as anything but a positive that we got 6 rather than 5 innings with Cole, if only because we don't need to use Chad Durbin to get through regulation.

That's where I am, and I bet Charlie would have sent him back out.

Still pissed tho

I don't get why MLB is so Rays happy... you think they'd be just as eager to see the Phils win with lots of young talented character guys such as Chase, Cole, JRoll, Ryan, Shane, etc. to promote the heck out of... from what I've seen Tampa may have some decent young talent but they are pretty much faceless and boring..

So there were special rules in place. Silverman, Selig, and Gillick knew about them. But FOX obviously didn't. DuPuy very clearly didn't. The players didn't. The managers didn't. Everyone directly involved in a World Series game did not know the rules which were in place, and nobody in a position to alert the viewing audience in a timely fashion knew either. That is absurd.

Second, if they had this plan in place, why did they play the top of the sixth? That was not baseball. Hamels couldn't throw a curveball (Stark reported this on OTL, but check the Gameday; no curves in the 6th). Rollins couldn't field a ground ball. It's a wonder that Upton made it all the way around the bases without falling over. Burrell couldn't make a decent throw to the plate. Okay, maybe that last thing isn't so rare. But still, it is mind boggling that they played under those conditions with a clearly superior contingency plan in place.

Even worse, the Rays batted one more time in these conditions that the Phillies did. That was the whole point of the old rule (changed last year), where the score reverted back to the last full inning; if the weather is bad, both teams had to suffer equally. It's pretty obvious that the Rays benefited from this, allowing them to tie an elimination game in the World Series because baseball has an incompetent commissioner.

Yeah, I guess the worst to first thing is the angle but since there are 28 people in Florida that care about their team and maybe 4 or 5 in Hazleton, isn't it a better story that the usually hapless Phils with their cast of young, charismatic, talented players are on the brink of ending a 25 year Big 4 pro team curse to an end in a city with a long and storied sports history. But hey promote BJ Upton if you want... too bad Delmon 'Batman' Young and Elijah 'Minor Anger Problem' Dukes aren't still around!

Not that it means much but I just wonder how many people will be in CBP tomorrow. It will just look weird I think since a lot of people that attended the first portion of the game might not be able to make it tomorrow. A shame there will be empty seats which so many would love to occupy. Or is everyone just selling their stubs?

Well, MLB / FOX think national and not regional in terms of ad revenue and ratings. Both teams have good "storylines" that MLB and FOX can pimp for ratings. I guess they figure the Rays' Cinderella storyline is more Hollywood movie-ish and thus would have a broader national appeal.

Because of what happened, the 3 inning resumption may possibly be a ratings record breaker. I really think it will... that with all the controversy and hoopla, and since it might determine the champion (Phils win = whole ball o' wax), there will be more eyeballs watching those 3 innings than the combined series total for their dream Dodgers/Red Sox series. Even casual sports fans and folks that don't care for baseball, as it may only be about an hour or so. The suits at FOX are probably orgasmic.

If it rains enough, we've got a shot at:

Hamels, 13 IP, 2 R, 2 ER

Can someone give me one good reason why the Phils should obey the commissioner's slotting recommendations during next year's draft?

They should break slot at every opportunity and give Selig the finger after each one.
