World Series 2008 Games 5.1 & 5.2 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

Postby lowcountry » Tue Oct 28, 2008 00:03:19

In all seriousness, every single decision was worse than the last one, IMO:

1. Start the game. Are Selig and his boys the only folks in the park who thought they could get this game in?
2. Not stopping once the monsoon hit.
3. Stopping in the middle of an inning. He even farking admitted it didn't matter when they stopped it -- so why then?

No. Have you seen Myers pitch first innings all year?

Only if you're willing to pitch two guys on 3-day's rest in the event of a defeat.

Tue: Myers
Wed: Moyer (pitched Sat.)
Thu: Blanton (pitched Sun.)

We'd still be in this shitty limbo, just winning instead of tied. We did get a few hits with runners in scoring position. I think our approach was more or less fine all night.

The Rays are absolutely going to go with Price.

Your thoughts on going with Happ for the first?

It's the 7th inning. We pitch our bullpen in the seventh inning quite regularly. Why use Happ. It's not the 4th for Christ sake.

Watching now on ESPN how Upton scored the winning run to allow the Rays to take the series. It's pretty exciting.

He said he's still the pitcher. I don't think he'd hesitate to go with Price to neutralize our ability to pinch hit for Hamels with a decent bat.

Phils score in the bottom of the 6th. Madson pitches the 7th & 8th (with Romero helping with the lefties in the 8th, if necessary), Lidge the 9th. World champions. Done.

True. I'm just a small believer in the mentality of a starter.

Could probably use Durbin too.

If 9-1-2 goes scoreless in the bottom of the 6th, I go to anybody but Madson or Lidge. They'd be facing 6-7-8, so you have to hope that whoever you trot out there can shut those guys down. That gives the offense the 6th and 7th innings to try and get one run. If it does, THEN you go to Madson for the 8th.

Yeah, that's pushing it a little bit. Did Selig become a minority owner of the Sox or something?

So, they HAVE to make a call by 5 or 6 p.m., right?

Best-case scenario at this point is a delay until Wed., right? And that would be, what?, a 9 p.m. start because of the Obama ad?

If that's the case, can they get away with no travel day? Or would that push things back another day? Opening the door to Hamels in G7, if necessary?
