what I mean is that I think unless he gets yet or drops off a bunch, the team with his RFA rights will max him out if necessary

Fun discussion about Bledsoe, but we're still living in TankWorld this season. There's no way Hinkie pays big money to any FA who could help win games this year.

I think that would be misguided thinking on Hinkie's part since Bledsoe and the 9th pick is a lot better than just the 5th pick

Bledsoe is a good asset to acquire. If you think he's going to explode, this is the perfect time to get him. His height is misleading, IMO. Don't know how that jives with the strategy, but he's much more a known quantity than someone we pick next season a few slots higher.

Saying he's a good asset is saying you think he's likely to retain surplus trade value at a 15mm salary. is this really true?

we've talked about MCW's trade value at length and his salary is ~5mm

You could be right. But I think Hinkie is even more patient than you may give him credit for. I think he'll keep his powder dry on the FA front until he sees a clear path to what he wants for the team as a whole, a lot of which is yet TBD until we see Noel play real games, MCW in his second year, Embiid's health, etc.

I suspect Hinkie places a great deal more weight on flexibility as an asset going forward than he does in a short-term calculus. e.g., Bledsoe + 9 > 5. The nice thing is we'll find out soon enough. But, after drafting a couple of guys who won't play this year, my money is on patience, flexibility and losing this year.
