I actually agree with steve for the most part, think people were a little crazy to want to trade our one vet who might give a crap (yeah yeah JRICH w/e) for "anything we can get" but I still think it'd be very unlikely for him to opt in just financial sense-wise, so the timing and dollars on re-signing him will be pretty tricky

Is Thad ultimately worth more than the $9 million that he ultimately gets paid in 15-16 if he opts in with the Sixers? Maybe a bad team, trying to make a speedy recovery (ie. the Lakers or dare I say, the Heat) throw him a couple extra million, but then what is he ultimately trading the bump in pay for? Jumping off an elevator going up to get on a fancier looking one heading down?

2015-16 Sixers!
PG- MCW
SG- Hezonja
SF- THAD
PF- Noel
C- Embiid

Love that team!

I don't think he'll get a significant raise, just the security of more years

I get that, but if he sticks it out with us, and finishes out his contract as the team is starting to click, wouldn't the Sixers be perfectly capable of extending him? I'm not a salary cap expert, but isn't it actually to the team's benefit, as well as the player, to resign with your current team?

Depends on the contract.

If you want that 5th year, you need to become a free agent. Otherwise it doesn't really matter I guess, could be missing something though

You gotta love Thad, though. He wanted to see a Summer League game so much he planned a family vacation around it.

I love Thad, but if he's not going to be on the team when his contract expires, HINKIE would be retarded not to ACQUIRE ASSETS for him

Kind of obvious- you always prefer to get something rather than nothing. My whole point is maybe a Thad extension is a possibility (obviously over reading the Orlando appearances), and resigning your veteran leader is better than 2 2nd round picks from the Miami Heat.

I'm not counting on Thad maybe opting in or waiting and seeing about an extension. I'm trading him as soon as a first rounder is available.

What is available? Two seconds? Probably doing that at the deadline if that's the best offer

I'm going to be legit bummed when Thad leaves. Not a great player or anything but a really fun guy to watch, stand up guy etc.

What is the basis for your pessimism around a Thad resign? The guy has spent his entire career here, has been nothing but a class act the entire time, and the team will hopefully be on the upswing come extension time. I love the Hinkie asset collecting as much as anyone, but at certain points, can't we look at what might be better served for the team's morale? Not to mention, he's a reasonably young piece that clearly would have a place with the roster as it's currently being constructed.
