The Sixers and Cavs are playing chicken right now. I think the Cavs still want to draft Embiid. Tellem is trying to steer Orlando and Utah out of the picture, but Philly is the wild card because Hinkie doesn't care if Embiid plays this year. Philly is trying to convince Cleveland that if they trade down any further than 3, they aren't getting Embiid, because the Sixers will pick him. (Whether they actually will or not, I don't know.) So for Cleveland, it comes down to whether they're going to risk losing Embiid to add Derrick Favors and 23, or whether they take what Philly's offering and call it a day and just take Embiid at 3.

Unless the Sixers wanted Embiid all along.

If the Sixers wanted Embiid all along, I feel like the trade talks with Cleveland would have been pretty short prior to Embiid's injury, and according to pretty much every source out there, they were not.

Pretty much every source says nothing about whether the talks were long, short or anything I'm between.

I don't think there would have been talks at all is my point.

Hinkie: We're interested in trading up to #1?
Cleveland: Interesting. Who are you trading up to pick?
Hinkie: Embiid.
Cleveland: Well, we're picking Embiid.
Hinkie: OK. Worth a shot.

End of conversation.

But it's whatever, I'm not interested in yet another trade semantics debate.

Apparently you are.

dbodner's column on MCW's shot and my unbridled, overwhelming enthusiasm for this draft class got me OK with trading 'em for a top 10 pick.

I get what you're saying but I read Ford's "trust me" in the mock draft as more of a testimony of the value of the guys he was "drafting"

It really does seem odd that Ford and Simmons have been saying since December that everyone in the NBA knows that Wiggins is at the top of the Sixers board. Hinkie is a man that said " don't think we will ever be a team that talks about the very next thing we're going to do. That is giving an advantage to the other 29 competing teams."

Anyway, is Mitch McGary going to drop to the second round? Worth the risk if he drops that far. Loved him before he fucked up his back.

No, that's fair, but he's had a ton of stuff about the MCW trade rumors, and the LB guys have heard a lot of the same. I still put it at like 50/50, but that's way higher than I would've had it a couple weeks ago.

It's the one thing I haven't been able to figure out. My head's going to explode when Hinkie trades up for Jabari Parker Thursday night.

I think McGary has an outside shot at getting to 32, but there was a report last week (I can't remember who it was, but it was somebody semi-credible at least) that said there was indications McGary had a promise in hand from a team in the late 1st.

I think sometimes they're a little off the mark, but when I'm hearing the same thing from multiple different sources, that's a lot of smoke. And I heard it from the LB guys before I heard it from Ford and Woj.

Bodner regularly says stuff like "my source said this would happen but I didn't have permission to run it." I generally believe him on that because no one would admit their lack of reporting chops so blatantly otherwise

Wiggins' analytics don't come anywhere near matching his hype, which is another way of saying he may be overvalued. Doesn't really smell like a Hinkie move to me, but what do I know?

Thunder maybe? Remember seeing they'd had a guarantee to a Euro who dropped out

I also love McGary at 32 so mark the date, me and danrosz agreed on something.

I could see that. He makes sense for a lot of those contenders who could just use a plug and play rotation big man. The Clippers stood out to me as a likely team on that front as well.

not going to speak to the relevance of college WARP given the vast differences between college systems but Kevin Pelton did note Khem Birch as a high-WARP 2nd round guy that might fit the Sixers' M.O.

also keep in mind I may be biased as I think I could probably make a side job out of McGary's leisure activities

DX currently has McGary going 30th to the Spurs.

I'd really like to get Bogdan Bogdanovic in the second.

Khem Birch REEEEEEBEEELLLSS

If he could learn to finish at the rim offensively his numbers would be infinitely better. Missed so many bunnies and put backs. Defensive monster though.

How about that.... How do you rate the top four? I go Parker, Embiid, Wiggins, Exum with Embiid only dropping to number two bc of the injury. You're more of a Wiggins/Exum guy, correct?
