The Sixers and Cavs are playing chicken right now. I think the Cavs still want to draft Embiid. Tellem is trying to steer Orlando and Utah out of the picture, but Philly is the wild card because Hinkie doesn't care if Embiid plays this year. Philly is trying to convince Cleveland that if they trade down any further than 3, they aren't getting Embiid, because the Sixers will pick him. (Whether they actually will or not, I don't know.) So for Cleveland, it comes down to whether they're going to risk losing Embiid to add Derrick Favors and 23, or whether they take what Philly's offering and call it a day and just take Embiid at 3.
Unless the Sixers wanted Embiid all along.
If the Sixers wanted Embiid all along, I feel like the trade talks with Cleveland would have been pretty short prior to Embiid's injury, and according to pretty much every source out there, they were not.
Pretty much every source says nothing about whether the talks were long, short or anything I'm between.
I don't think there would have been talks at all is my point.
Hinkie: We're interested in trading up to #1?
Cleveland: Interesting. Who are you trading up to pick?
Hinkie: Embiid.
Cleveland: Well, we're picking Embiid.
Hinkie: OK. Worth a shot.
End of conversation.
But it's whatever, I'm not interested in yet another trade semantics debate.
Apparently you are.
