I think he tried to trade Thad for #20.

Also we got 7 straight up for MCW. All along I've been reading it would have to be MCW+, right? Straight up sure makes it tough to pass up if Wiggins isn't there at 3.

he doesn't shoot 3s (or any jumpers) well which is my concern as an NBA wing. and definitely showed great scoring skills when he gets in close, but it's mostly below the rim stuff. i'm concerned it might have been a fluke season and the kawhi leonards of the world are gonna send that shit back now in the NBA, since he's not gonna beat people with quickness

Surely we can do much better than Asik and #25?

For Thad? I doubt it. Asik would be a valuable piece that we could move at the deadline.

Also, there's no way in hell the Rockets would do that trade. They'd be adding salary to the cap when they're trying to clear it.

If anything, I could see it being MCW for 7+Nash. I doubt the Lakers would want to add Thad's salary and Nash is a negative. It's a trade I'd only do if a player the Sixers were targeting was there at 7.

is asik still valuable though? he's been on the trade block for years and apparently caused trouble in locker room

I think NC State shot the fewest percentage of 3s in the country. It wasn't a big part of ther offense. I'd be curious how many of those were shot clock heaves/contested. This guy puts in the work so I'd be confident in him bumping the percentage up a few ticks.

I think he'd be an interesting deadline chip, especially if the Sixers have their full allotment of cash to send with him for a pick somewhere. The problem with him is the balloon payment.

I think the locker room issues were just at the beginning of the year. The thing keeping him from getting traded, from my understanding, is that Morey had a high asking price. He's also due something like 15 million this year (at an 8.5ish cap hit). He's still a good player and a good rim protector/rebounder.

I'm sure there'll be a contender at the deadline who's looking for a win-now piece for the playoffs who'll be willing to give us something for the future. The Rockets weren't really a good trading partner for Asik last year since they were playoff contenders themselves.

It's not as bad at the deadline though when half the season (and half his salary) has passed.

Well I think Ford proposes a good point. You have to make this trade pretty soon before/after you make that 3rd selection. Unless they actually think MCW/Exum is going to work. I would hate to draft Exum at 3, then get stuck with MCW because the guy you really wanted went to Boston.

I'd give MCW and Exum a shot together. I would hate to trade MCW just to trade him. It's hard to imagine there not being a guy that I really like available at seven though.

Feel like it would be a conditional based on a list of guys being available at 7.

I would do it and just take your BPA

O/U on 76ers first round picks. 4 seems about right. (Over)

Maybe. Depends on how they have guys ranked. It's entirely possible they've looked at one of those forwards and just went "NOPE" for whatever reason.

The Sixers and Cavs are playing chicken right now. I think the Cavs still want to draft Embiid. Tellem is trying to steer Orlando and Utah out of the picture, but Philly is the wild card because Hinkie doesn't care if Embiid plays this year. Philly is trying to convince Cleveland that if they trade down any further than 3, they aren't getting Embiid, because the Sixers will pick him. (Whether they actually will or not, I don't know.) So for Cleveland, it comes down to whether they're going to risk losing Embiid to add Derrick Favors and 23, or whether they take what Philly's offering and call it a day and just take Embiid at 3.

Unless the Sixers wanted Embiid all along.

If the Sixers wanted Embiid all along, I feel like the trade talks with Cleveland would have been pretty short prior to Embiid's injury, and according to pretty much every source out there, they were not.

Pretty much every source says nothing about whether the talks were long, short or anything I'm between.

We're figuring Wiggins and Parker are off the board and that we got Exum at three. So there really only need to be four guys on the list. Rumor has it (and those are always so reliable) that they may like Smart better than MCW. So even if you only have Embiid, Vonleh, Gordon, and Smart on there, you're guaranteed one of those guys at seven.

I don't think there would have been talks at all is my point.

Hinkie: We're interested in trading up to #1?
Cleveland: Interesting. Who are you trading up to pick?
Hinkie: Embiid.
Cleveland: Well, we're picking Embiid.
Hinkie: OK. Worth a shot.

End of conversation.

But it's whatever, I'm not interested in yet another trade semantics debate.

Fair. I just don't have a grasp on their valuation of MCW at this point. Previously I thought it was more of a "Well, if somebody gives us a good offer, sure, we'll do it" but the way Ford is beating the drum, I'm legitimately starting to think it's more "We're selling high."
