It was interesting around Salt Lake yesterday. People for the post acted really nice and seemed to purposefully avoid politics. But there was a lot of sighs and shaking of heads and resigned looks. The Mormons I know either voted McMullen or Clinton. But I know some cool fucking Mormons.

This is the unfortunate truth. Trump won with less votes than Romney but Hillary got more than 6MM votes less than Obama. That's hard to get my brain around.

As it stands now, Trump does have fewer total votes than Romney, but that is a bit misleading. The drop off came almost entirely from states that were non-competitive both ways and the winner of the state was known before a vote was even counted.

Where Trump seriously performed was the swing / battleground states. So much so In fact, in a hypothetical matchup with Obama's totals in 2012, Trump's vote totals would have won him the White House.

http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/44 ... obama-2012

That doesn't necessarily mean it would have happened had Trump won, but the turnout jump was really in the states that decided the election. On the flip side of that, Hillary would have beat Romney.

The hilarity of the white working class blaming "the illegals" for their troubles has no bounds, mainly because there is no employment overlap.

White working class people do not want the jobs (and associated wages) that many illegal immigrants are willing to take. They want the $70,000/year + pension manufacturing jobs that their fathers and grandfathers could rely on, and those are simply not coming back due to both globalization and automation.

And, if those jobs did come back, would those in the working class (or anyone, really) be prepared to pay (significantly) more for "MADE IN THE USA" stuff? Because that's the easiest way to offset the substantial cost increase that would come with moving these factories back to the US.

I want all the hospitals in all the hick towns across red america to start informing locals that they'll be shut down/reduced to a reception desk and a box of bandaids if ACA's repealed

or, just shut their doors and leave the fuckers to die in their shitty streets

I don't really want that but I feel like I want that

going through some of the statistics:

2m more people voted this year over last year. that number will probably rise some as more ballots are counted.
Voter turnout rate was 55% in 2016(57.5 in 2012 and 62.3 in 2008)
69% polled said they would vote vs the 55% actual.

its hard to understand some of these totals since we set records on voter registration and the anecdotal evidence of voter turnout.

I think we need to commit ourselves to really increasing our efforts to combat the worst effects of the next 4 years. I know Pac is politically active, and the rest of us need to come up with some ways we can do more.

I for one am considering at least donating money to environmental and civil liberties and civil rights groups. I would also like to engage in at least some activity on these issues, because those are the issues I care about that are most threatened. I would like to be in a position to support good Democratic candidates in the next 2 years. If the Trump administration is even close to the shitshow I think it might be, there are going to be lots of vulnerable Republicans in 2018. I sure hope the DNC is out right now recruiting solid candidates, and looking beyond the usual suspects when it does so. Yes, we've got to fight gerrymandering and voter suppression, and citizens Untied, but remember, gerrymandering can present opportunities in a wave election. The Tea Party also shows how highly motivated electorates can be mobilized despite establishment efforts against them. All those people protesting right now need to do more than shout "fuck Trump" and get active in involved.

When I think about how much I didn't do in the last election, I'm embarrassed for myself.

Not sure what the endgame is here.

Too little, too late. More proof that too many people (especially those in urban areas) just assumed Trump becoming President could never happen.

You have to wonder how many of those people stayed home after seeing the polls for weeks predicting a big HRC win.

all the ones in the Guy Fawkes masks have likely never voted, but their bro did totally throw a brick through a parked cop car window once
