I for one am considering at least donating money to environmental and civil liberties and civil rights groups. I would also like to engage in at least some activity on these issues, because those are the issues I care about that are most threatened. I would like to be in a position to support good Democratic candidates in the next 2 years. If the Trump administration is even close to the shitshow I think it might be, there are going to be lots of vulnerable Republicans in 2018. I sure hope the DNC is out right now recruiting solid candidates, and looking beyond the usual suspects when it does so. Yes, we've got to fight gerrymandering and voter suppression, and citizens Untied, but remember, gerrymandering can present opportunities in a wave election. The Tea Party also shows how highly motivated electorates can be mobilized despite establishment efforts against them. All those people protesting right now need to do more than shout "fuck Trump" and get active in involved.
When I think about how much I didn't do in the last election, I'm embarrassed for myself.
pretty sure this is going to kill any trafficking work. need to check in with my friends who are more connected. i know they were horrified of a trump presidency regarding some legislation they had in mind for the coming years.
While I do hate the various stereotyped attributed to "millennials" maybe one that has a grain of truth behind it is impatience. Political activism doesn't succeed all at once. Change is going to be incremental, and there will be set backs. But you have to keep fighting the good fight. Shaming politicians who go along with this shit is important and needs to be part of how we operate.
I also think, regardless of our political views and differences, we need to make an effort to treat one another well. No, we need not tolerate bigotry, but sure as hell need to defend those victimized by it.
