sheesh

Virginia: Trump vs. Clinton vs. Johnson vs. Stein Roanoke College Clinton 48, Trump 32, Johnson 8, Stein 3 Clinton +16

national polls have tightened a few points, for whatever reasons. state polls still seem to be as wide as ever. not sure what to make of it.

Stein is getting 5 in the new national poll from NBC. If that happens i'll eat my hat.

so now i'll eat my hat if: Trump wins PA or Stein gets 5 nationally.

I think there's plenty to criticize with how he's spending his money inefficiently if he's trying to win, and I'm happy to entertain any theories that his end game is a media empire to enrich himself. The idea he's trying to make money off the campaign died with him forgiving his loans. He kicked in another $2 mil last month. I would guess they've been staffing up at headquarters and are taking on more and more office space, explaining the steady increase in rent from March - when he had basically no senior staff - to July. This got a really credulous reception in my Twitter feed last night from national media types and the conservatives I follow who dislike Trump, outside of a handful of people who actually worked on campaigns.

This was in the field August 7-17, so before any tightening - real or imaginary - seems to be taking place in the national polls. But if Trump is down well into double digits in Virginia it doesn't really matter when the poll was taken.

The rent jumped even though he was paying fewer staff in July than he did in March.

The Trump campaign paid Trump Tower Commercial LLC $35,458 in March ― the same amount it had been paying since last summer ― and had 197 paid employees and consultants. In July, it paid 172 employees and consultants.

OK but that says nothing about how many people were working out of the campaign's headquarters. His paid staff through the primaries were mostly field workers who were laid off as their primaries ended (stupidly, leading to a lot of the issues the campaign is having now with building a national field campaign). The field staff who were no longer employed by the campaign never worked out of Trump Tower. In April Manafort became the campaign chair, and they started hiring the normal sort of people on a national campaign - political director, communications director, etc. - who never existed on Trump's primary campaign. I imagine most of these people have been hiring staffs under them as well, and these folks all need office space. In the wide world of things to attack Trump for, saying the campaign paying himself $170k for office space is phony and him making money off the campaign when he gave the campaign $2 mil last month and there's good reason to believe the rent increase is just down to taking up more space seems like a weak choice.

It is being reported by virtually everyone, and is a fact, that the media pile on against me is the worst in American political history!

i think trump was caught with the loans, jh, and he decided to cut bait to continue the long con. he is, and will, recoup that money by any means necessary.

cballs - who is reporting it if 'the media' is the one piling on? food for thought

Democratic nominee for West Virginia governor is the first 'big' Dem to say he won't vote for Clinton. Thing is, he was a Republican just one year ago and was the president of a coal mining company. No skin off her back, basically.

I never expected him to forgive the loans, but he did and I don't really think there's a plausible way to expect him to pay himself back at this point in any meaningful amount. And if he was looking to try and recoup the money, he wouldn't have thrown a few million more in last month. Fully open to the long con idea that he's doing this with an eye on building a conservative media empire at the end, but I think the door should be mostly closed on the making money directly off the campaign speculation unless something comes out that's a lot more clear than this.

It's also the only chance he has of getting elected in a state that will go for Trump.

lots of rumors Trump is actually going to drop out because he's tired of John Oliver owning him so hard.

Making money off campaign =/= Recovering as much of his "personal" expenditures as he can from donations through his various companies

I really wish someone would sneak up on stage dressed as him, with a Pomeranian on their head to represent trump's hair and those little plastic hands sticking out of their suit sleeves. Is this too much to ask?
