The big contrast tonight: the utter capitulation by Marco Rubio, and not even in person, vs Ted Cruz's gangster move.

Pretty fucked up on a few points there

The idea that Trump should be the guy to get our spending under control is absolutely horrifying and hilarious. This is the guy who can't build a bathroom without breaking a million dollars.

He really is the exact opposite of what he's portraying to the base. He's not christian or financially responsible or even very smart. I can't believe people are being fooled by this, but I guess the polls are showing that people really aren't foled. They just don't care about the lying or the other problems. THEY JUST WANT TO SAY FUCK YOU TO ESTABLISHMENT AND TAKE DOWN THE COUNTRY WHILE SCREAMING "AMERICA IS GREAT!"

cold light of dawn concept:

Cruz about-faces shortly before-during dem convention & does an actual drumpf endorsement speech, 'clarifying' his remarks from the convention stage

authoritarians love them some groveling capitulation

No, he's stubborn and comfortable being seen as the outcast

The annoying thing will be as he reframes last night's speech as a call to the conservative conscience and pretend it had nothing to do with Donald Trump. Depending on how the winds blow in the next couple of years, he'll claim he voted for Trump personally because Hillary Clinton was too intolerable, but say he needed to stand up for the constitution at the convention in order to get back in the good graces of the Trumpies he slaughtered last night.

This would also maybe be a moment for reflection for Trump that possibly belittling people's wives and parents isn't the route to unifying the party, but he is uninterested or incapable of learning such lessons.

Cruz just cut off his nose to spite his face.

A lot of donors have already said they will never write a check to him again.

Stay radical Ted.

This entire convention has been clown college. What a load of buffoonery.

Come to the RNC to hear such great speakers as Chachi Arcola, twelve people named Trump, and some guys who won't even endorse the candidate. He's going to hire the best people when he's in charge though!

Cruz is so slimy. I wish he would have spoke his conscious and actually tore into Trump. If Trump loses a close election or somehow denies reality and wins then Cruz committed suicide. The only way this work is if Trump and his "movement" is utterly destroyed. Then again, I could be underestimating the memory of American politics and this could be a null point in 2020 (or 2018 when he's up for re-election IIRC).

Another thing that has surprised me thus far is how peaceful the protests have been - as far as I can tell, the most violence was last night at a flag burning event, but nothing like we've seen at Trump rallies. Perhaps the protesters are waiting for the human waste to speak tonight to stage their big protests?

Cruz speaking now.. GOP pledge wasn't blank check to malign his wife and have him be a servile puppy.

Wasn't eager to speak at RNC since Trump never took back any of his falsehoods about himself and his family, but it was an obligation.

Ted is dominating the morning news cycle with speech to TX delegation

Cruz says pledge "abrogated...when it became personal...I am not in the habit of supporting people who attack my wife and attack my father."

Cruz: "Neither he nor his campaign has taken back a word of what they said about my family"

In my view, the most important thing about both the Cruz thing and the plagiarism thing is the way they have dominated convention coverage. Just about nothing regarding what the speakers actually might be saying (or not saying). I just don't see any post convention bounce for Trump here. I suppose if delivered a strong speech tonight Trump could reverse that, and I guess more people will be actually watching tonight than other convention nights. I have a hard time seeing Trump delivering the kind of speech that gets him that bounce, but I also suspect he'll avoid totally shitting the bed. The latter however is more likely than the former.

There you go, Ted.

He's a slimy turd, but what does Trump want when he attacked the guy's wife and father? I'll be surprised if this hurts Cruz much if he can frame it that way. It might not even hurt him if he doubles down on it.
