Trump took no questions at that press conference. Why call it a press conference then?

Yes, it is distressing. But the problem for Republicans is that they not only have among their base most of the country's out-and-out racists (if I may take "racist" as a proxy for "toothless" or whatever the epithet doc wishes to brand on what he sees as typical Trump voters) who bother to vote, but also that there are a fair number of those "sneaky" racists who also break Republican. White, baby-boomer suburban is who I am thinking of. Many are college educated and relatively affluent, which would suggest they are among the anyone-but-Trump crowd, but many of these same people also quietly harbor... unfortunate sentiments, and are likely drawn to the Trump "tell it like it is" nonsense. It will be interesting to see how Trump does in the Philly suburbs in the nomination contest in PA as a test of this. I think he wins Delco - more clearly home to the Trump sort, probably less educated on average than other Philly burbs - and Montco and Bucks will be close between him and Kasich. Both have a lot of the "establishment" country club style Republicans who are repulsed by Trump who doc envisions, but it will be a test of that sneak racist thing you see in a lot of baby boomer white people.

Trump could have won Ohio.

I'd have taken that. Then ROMNEY 2016 could have gotten underway. Now we'll drift aimlessly toward narrowly nominating Trump.

How would Romney 2016 have worked in the event that Trump had won Ohio exactly?

Run independent. Split the vote. Elect Hillary. Give regular Republicans a reason to turn out and feel OK about themselves to keep the House and Senate.

Why can't Romney still do that if Trump is the nominee?

Great post.

While there is danger in disregarding the lot of the downtrodden, it's also dangerous to think "this time it's different."

Compare the computer programmer who lost a nice job when it was outsourced, to the dustbowl Okie sharecropper who fled to California to bid for jobs where each opening had 10 men vying for it. This does not diminish the real pain or the need to address it - but it's not a new phenomenon.

Jobs have been lost and industries destroyed plenty of times. Whether to new technology or cheap foreign labor. Not seeing how it's different now other than there is a brighter light on the wealthiest. And somehow it's OK for celebs and athletes to be super wealthy, but not CEOs.

Here's a brighter view: http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/arc ... er/426882/

oh for #$!&@'s sake. if you spent a tenth of the time you devote to kicking those who are already down to considering ways to goose the comfortable, you'd waste at least 10% less of your time here on earth. You could start on ways to trim corporate welfare.

But on that article, the best - and by best I mean the bizarrely worst - is found in so many of the comments. Whew, those people have already broken out the riding crops and the knee-high boots

Not sure how you reconcile your sudden defense of racist white trash with your (accurate) characterization of Mein Drumpf voters as mouth-breathers. Somehow it's OK for you to trash them but not the country clubbers at NRO?

Need to start filing to get on the ballot by the beginning of May. Which means you need to start gathering signatures in the next week or two.

Lol, says the reason Trump gets airtime because partisan Democrats who control the media are pushing him. It's not the ratings.

calvin, it's difficult for me to convey how far behind you are here. drumpf is not winning majorities in states where he needs to win them. 40% will not do it in the proportional states. He needs to win ALL the "true" WTA states, PLUS bigger pluralities in the proportional states, to gain the nomination. He's not doing it. He already lost Ohio. So he's even less likely to do what he needs to do.

If he underperforms in big states, like PA and CA - which seems quite probable - it's unlikely he'll corral enough delegates to secure the nomination before Cleveland.

It's not my fault you can't do math.

Plus, drumpf is just a disgusting awful, horrible organism.
Yes, but in a double utley you can put your utley on top they other guy's utley, and you're the winner. (Swish)
