Sadly, people who agree with his worldview generally no longer see that type of thing as being disrespectful to the office of the POTUS (and a dereliction of his Senatorial duties) but instead see it as laudable. Yet they'd be among the first ones to decry how our society has devolved, what with all of the loud rap music and baggy jeans.

I haven't had that same close up look at the candidate's genitalia, but for sure the quality has plummeted.

Consider the candidates in the 1988 GOP primary. Absent the festering pecker on Pat Robertson, this was a group of solid citizens, no matter how you feel about their policy positions:

Vice President
George H.W. Bush

Senate Minority Leader
Bob Dole

Televangelist
Pat Robertson

U.S. Congressman
Jack Kemp

Former Governor
Pierre S. du Pont, IV

Former U.S. Senator
Paul Laxalt

Former Governor
Harold E. Stassen

Haley sounded refreshingly sane last evening. Her R policy summary was regurgitated bullet points, but slapping down Turnip was candor seldom seen

This.

After the fact that all they seem to care about is money, this is what bothers me the most. It's all about beating the other side and nothing about respect or love of country. The fact that they wrap themselves in the flag while doing it makes it all the more despicable.

There will be an all out assault on Obama's legacy the moment he leaves office. Legacy is important. They worship Reagan and his legacy and use it as a way to get what they want now. They certainly don't want a democrat to have the type of legacy Reagan did. They don't want people talking about Obama's healthcare achievements fondly because democrats will be able to use it as a selling point for whatever they're peddling at the time. Carter is still attacked and ridiculed. Clinton is still despised and his achievements trivialized. Legacy matters to them and Obama will be under constant attack for the rest of his life and probably after that. The fact that he's black will make it particularly ugly. I'd like to see democrats loudly applauding his achievements. Start naming things after him immediately. It's important PR, I think. Given the shitstorm he was handed, he's done a great job, I think. I don't like the direction we've gone in a few areas (drones, for example), but he righted the ship and achieved a great deal of things despite facing possibly the most obstructionist congress in history. I think history will treat him very kindly, unless Reps manage to actually rewrite it. Dems need to make sure they don't.

I cannot imagine that he'd be using it in that context given that he phrased it as "liberal-style." That sounds what too rhetoric-y to be utilizing such a nuanced meaning.

Just when I thought I could not despise our flip-flopping, pandering governor any more, I went ahead and read the transcript of his SOTS speech.
