He also accused legislators of diverting funding he had earmarked for the elderly to help “illegal immigrants,” a term his administration often uses to describe people who are here legally seeking asylum from violence and political persecution in their homelands. Maine asylum seekers mostly come from African countries.

LePage has been accused of making a racially insensitive comment before. In August 2013, he reportedly told a group at a private function in Belgrade that President Obama “hates white people.” The remark was made at a meet-and-greet with the governor, first lady Ann LePage and Bennett, who had just been selected as party chairman. Two Republican lawmakers, who were not identified, confirmed the remarks to a reporter.

We were once discussing a job candidate from Maine, and someone mentioned culture shock. I remarked that Maine was a lot like Arkansas, except much colder and with lobster instead of crawfish. I was wrong. Maine is much, much worse than Arkansas.

Seems like the guy trying to oust her is pretty progressive. This could only be good for Congress and the Democratic Party as a whole. Then she just needs to lose her DNC role and I'll have a lot more faith.

well, that's certainly horrible as well, but in conservative outlets (and elsewhere to a lesser extent) this Juanita Broaddrick story from 1978 has gained a new life.

there's no new evidence, but we live in a more progressive culture now, and sexual assault is taken a lot more seriously. when you have Hillary (correctly) saying "Every survivor of sexual assault deserves to be heard, believed, and supported," it makes for a difficult conversation for her and her supporters.

it will be especially difficult if Cosby goes to court in PA and the trial drags out over the election season - sexual assault and it's implications/impacts will be a large part of the public consciousness and will illuminate the Bill Clinton situation a bit more.
