Brooks told AL.com on Monday that he and a small group of others from the Freedom Caucus met with Ryan to discuss concerns the caucus had with Ryan's immigration views.
Brooks and others in the Freedom Caucus are considered immigration hardliners, opposing any pathway to citizenship for immigrants who entered the country without following proper protocol. U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions of Alabama, of course, has become one of Capitol Hill's strongest voices opposing immigration policies of President Obama.
Brooks said he and other Freedom Caucus members had concerns that Ryan would use his new powerful position to push through immigration policies opposed by hardliners.
"Paul Ryan has views on border security that supports open borders and amnesty," Brooks said. "It is 180 degrees different from where Jeff Sessions and I stand."
As a result of last week's meeting, Ryan made two promises – which Brooks said the 2012 vice presidential candidate confirmed when Brooks put the promises on paper.
It is unwise or unproductive to bring up any immigration legislation so long as Barack Obama is president.
As Speaker, (Ryan) will not allow any immigration bill to reach the House floor for a vote unless the immigration bill is "supported by a majority of the majority" of the House Republican Conference.

At issue was the fact that higher-polling candidates like Donald Trump and Ben Carson were given lavish accommodations. Trump's room allegedly features "plush chairs and a flat screen TV." (Very luxurious.) Marco Rubio got "a theater-type room" with leather chairs, while Carly Fiorina can pretend she's at the Welshly Arms and take a pre-debate dip in her jacuzzi. Meanwhile, Chris Christie will have to practice his zingers in a small space "dominated by a toilet."
