rumors (nothing hard) are now circulating that McCarthy dropped out due to an affair with fellow congresswoman Rene Ellmers

apparently, it's been going on for months(years maybe?), but most of the "rumors" are coming from very reliable news sources like Breitbart and Got News. the fact that liberal blogs and web sites are linking those 2 locations should be a massive red(heh) flag for us all.

it would be very satisfying for another one of these "family values" Republicans to show that they're blatant hypocrites, though.

this is interesting, though: http://www.breitbart.com/big-government ... es-emerge/

didn't some congressman release a memo this week stating to his party that anyone who has skeletons in their closet should withdraw from any high position to further avoid any scandals?

I haven't kept up with the last 18 hours of this or so, but given the state of journalism these days, the fact that multiple sources are reporting the existence of a rumor means nothing more than there's a rumor. My understanding of all this is that some guy who has the e-mail addresses of a lot of influential people sent the accusation that McCarthy was having an affair to a bunch of those e-mail addresses. It might be considered evidence, but if I'm correct, it's only one source.

Given that, this has less credibility than the rumors swirling around Rick Perry's sexuality. Of course, the timing of the withdrawal might give the rumor some added credibility, but I think this is one of those things where there's really no more than meets the eye. Occam's razor and all that.

Wow, looks like the discharge petition is going to succeed for Ex-Im with 45-50 R's signing on. Becoming increasingly clear that, at least at this moment, there is no effective majority in the House. What a weird session of congress.

Sort of sad that what can bring the parties together is something that is arguably nothing more than corporate welfare.

Russia missed a Syrian rebel target and missiles landed in Iran open space, instead. Turns out their military sucks. when we aim for shit, we hit it, even if it's a bunch of doctors and patients.

It's shifted left on spending and to the nitwit side on social issues. Doc Smoove said Clown Show and that understates it.

Not sure there are any wimmen or nonwhites left to exclude - just sad angry clowns nostalgic for a 1950 they never personally experienced.

I want a Republican to root for, but even the best of the current crop of leaders or POTUS candidates are twisted by the nitwits. There really is no voice for fiscal conservatism, given all the shouting over the social "conservative" list of gripes.

On a related note, not sure why all the hate here (and gross misunderstanding) of Libertarians. Libertarians and Democrats are step-for-step on social issues.

depends on which libertarian you ask. libertarians are worse than rabbis in defining what a libertarian believes.

libertarian is theoretically a political philosophy. Democrat is a political party designation, fwiw.

I never thought to ask my rabbi to define what a libertarian believes, but I will take a shot. Vhat's to lose, I'm wondering?

As far as parties go, Libertarian is a considered a major party by wikipedia, much like the Greenies.

Monkey Cage take on the House Speaker stuff:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/mo ... rt-of-war/

My take away inference of the article: Boehner might be a tactical genius. He announced his resignation, but stayed on until a successor was chosen. He knew exactly what would follow, and thus retains his speakership with a much stronger hand (because now everyone knows there's no alternative) for the remainder of this Congress.

I'm 48 years old and it's been the Republicans who have been spending like crazy during most of my lifetime. Maybe it's time to switch which party is known for out of control spending. When spending increases, we should say they are spending like conservatives.
