Overheard an interesting conversation while sitting on the front deck of the beach house hear in the Brig...

two neighbors across the street were out in their adjacent driveways tending to gardening, car work, etc., and were conversing. One hard a Mercedes and the other a nice new 4x4 pickup. The first bit was them lamenting about how they don't get to vote here, so we can establish that this 'shore house' is their second residence.

Then the one started talking about the Trumpster. "He says what we all want to say but can't. he's got my vote". The other agrees. So there's two votes for the Donass! It's pretty disgusting to me that these middle aged white folks, with plenty going for them in their lives, can side with Trump whose philosophy is privilege personified.

Another interesting tidbit was "did you hear al gore's running" "Agains Hillary? Yeah, but I hear she's gonna get beat by that other guy...that....that..." "Oh, you mean Bernie Sanders!" "Yeah, that's him".

His own party has been turning on him for 2 years. His poll numbers continue to fall. He's getting annihilated by several clown car candidates. Need any more???

It's a story that says he's seriously considering dropping out of the race by the end of August. Its three pieces of evidence are he might miss the 2nd debate, he lost the argument with Paul among GOP voters, and he is stuck at low numbers in early states.

The cutoff for polling to qualify for the 2nd debate is September 10th, and it includes national polls that fit CNN's criteria conducted between July 16th and September 10th. This gives Christie a leg up over Kasich, because Kasich was polling worse in the mid July polls before he entered, and gives both a leg up over Fiorina because even if she does get a debate bump, there are a number of polls from before the 1st debate included in the average. It is possible he will narrowly miss the debate, but he won't know that by the end of the month. If missing the 2nd debate is a reason for leaving the race, one would expect he will soldier on at least until past Labor Day.

In the aftermath of the GOP debate, we haven't seen much in the way of polling, and what has come out has been mixed. 538 tallied up moves in polls and Christie and Paul are both basically unchanged. Gallup found that Rand Paul's fav/unfav took the biggest hit after the debate, dropping a net of 19 points. I'm not sure how much we've learned on how public opinion has been influenced by the debate, but from what we've got, it sure doesn't look like Rand won much of anything among GOP voters.

The point that Christie is not doing well in NH or Iowa is true, although he hasn't been doing well in Iowa for a long time and doing well there has not been part of his plan for winning the nomination. Kasich and he are battling over the same sort of voter in NH, and between Kasich's announcement bump and his Super PAC dropping about $4 mil on ads in the state, he's riding a wave. I don't think there's good reason to think this is permanent or irreversible. Christie is putting in the groundwork in the state needed to win or place well, and the short term ups and downs aren't going to cause him to leave the race.

If I was writing a made up blog post with no facts or sources about Christie's impending departure from the race, I'd have come up with more believable reasons for why he was bowing out. It's a really, really stupid blog post.

you haven't been studying your favored party's leading pretend candidate's playbook.

You lead with the disparaging remark, then dispense entirely with all of your rational defenses of that view.

Your sensible approach is weak. You're fi-ahed

Area socialist prefers not to read a dissertation on why the guy polling 13th in the Republican field won't drop out quite yet.
