I don't know. I think there is/was a big push for girls to be okay with who they are and the way they look. Dove has a whole campaign based on it. And now Bruce refers to Caitlin in the third person as if basically he/she is two people.

I don't know the science behind it, but what makes someone want to do something like that? Is it a mental disorder? Some chemical imbalance?

Like I said, the push for people to be OK with how they look has little to do with 'feminism' as we are discussing it. Feminists (of which I consider myself one) pushing for that does not make that in and of itself merely feminist.

As far as trans people, there's no evidence of a 'chemical imbalance' in the way it is generally thought of as a mental disorder that makes people trans.they are misgendered outwardly from what their brain posits them to be, that's all. the science is inconclusive as a whole, IMO. others may disagree. the fix is to change your outward appearance, not your inward gender. we don't believe in gay therapy anymore, so no reason to change that for trans people.

there are people far smarter and more knowledgable about this than me , though.
