Oh fer cryin'... they're Ludwig Vistalite octobans (these are roto-toms). Octobans were originally a set of 8, melodically tuned to encompass an octave (hence the name), but a set of 2 or 4 is more common nowadays. The shorter ones are called high-pitch and the long ones called low-pitch. The Ludwig Vistalite ones I posted are 2 highs (6" diameter, 12" & 16" long) and 2 lows (6" dia, 20" & 24" long).

Here's a pic of a kit with 4 lows mounted in a cluster to your right...

I think I still have my 2 low 20 yr old Tama octobans (22" & 24") somewhere, probably stored in my mom's attic (NEPA). I thought about making my own set of super long (~36") ones but I couldn't find 5 3/4" OD acrylic tubes.

tuned percussion is cool. you can play the intro to 'land down under' on them!!

I actually have two racks of marimbas from a church organ in my barn. Things are like 7 feet long. Was gonna make some kind of stand-up manual instrument out of the them, until I saw that they don't really follow a scale. I know they can easily map any organ key to any spot on the marimba they want, but I wonder why they would even build them that way.

my priority mail package going to elkins, WV, somehow is now at the Elk Grove, IL, post office

i double-checked the address & zip code (I paid & printed the label) and it's correct. I didn't think it was even remotely possible for someone/something to read a city name and get it wrong these days, what with bar codes and zip codes

We had something similar happen when we lived in Wilmington, had something shipped to us and it was somewhere like the Lehigh valley one day and then Wilmington, NC for a week before coming back to us. That happened on a shipment to me from amazon I think. They just fuck up sometimes.

USPS is usually pretty good though. I've never had an issue with USPS, nothing but trouble with Fed Ex, UPS used to be good but I've had issues with them the past couple of years. Like when we ordered something "ship to home" from Best Buy months ago and never got it. UPS tracking said they attempted delivery but no one was home so they sent it back (we were home at the time listed and the address was right). I figured they either lied or tried to deliver to someone else's house... I'm sure there are a lot of streets across the country named Bulevar De Palmas :eyeroll:

A relative who does contract work for UPS has been in one of their distribution hubs. Said it's like something out of a Dr Seuss book that got horribly off track

had the same issue with UPS recently. they removed the directional part of my street address(you know, E, W, etc...) after i entered it. i tried to fix it on their website, which entails signing up for 2 different websites; still didn't work. tried calling them, didn't work. i had to get it reshipped. fuck UPS.

Priority mail can get missent for many reasons. A lot of it is mechanical failure at the sorter. It happens sometimes. A huge percentage of the parcels get to the right place at the right time.
Teams lie, sometimes for good reasons, sometimes for bad. They do it to get an advantage while they look at the trade market or just because they can

oh yeah, no doubting that. It just seems like (and backed up by McNeal's anecdote) that this was misrouted because a city had a similar name. That's the part that has me scratching my head.
