oh no

my wife's aunt and uncle got scammed on "Yahoo Auctions" once for like $6,000. Some convaluted plot involving some up-front money that would be returned X2 when the courier got to the states or something absurd like that
you sure do seem to have a lot of time on your hands to be on this forum? Do you have a job? Are you a shut-in?

Met up with a friend for lunch today. Place was practically empty. It was great. What's the problem?

because we're pissed we have to work. and its always understaffed. and there's always one or two rushes that just completely kill all morale and leave me in the worst mood ever.

I went ahead and closed my place early yesterday. Was probably influenced by my impending day off, but still, who eats out on Memorial Day?

Sanity check, how long should a best man speech be? I would say 5 minutes or less. Guessing that's about 700-800 words.

Unless you have a killer story that needs an elaborate backstory, I think most would appreciate a shorter toast.

The toast I did for my brother was around this. I agree with JH, unless you have a killer story keep it shorter.

2 min should be your target. Witty, sincere, succinct.

2 minutes seems a little brief...I mean you have to introduce and give thanks and compliment the bride so that's a minute right there. I've got about 650 words which I think will turn into 4-5 minutes. May trim a little bit and should be good to go. Some things on the internet said 1000 words or 7 minutes. That seems basically insane.

after about my first two years of working weddings I got tired of telling everybody to 'raise their glass for a toast' after the best man handed the mic back to me after his schpiel without doing, ya know, the important part; the part he was supposedly there for. Happened about half the time. After that I would brief the best man / maid of honor (where applicable) to make sure they remembered it, and I'd make them write it on their cue sheet if it wasn't already there.

so, don't forget the actual toast

My friend gave the greatest best man speech i ever heard for our friend. When we were kids, they have were having a catch with a baseball, and one threw it to the other, and it just disappeared. they never found teh ball, and it was the weirdest thing. So the best man is giving this speech, and tied that story into the speech somehow, and all of a sudden, a baseball comes rolling onto the floor where the best man was speaking (groomsman tossed it). It was an amazing speech not just bc of that moment, but bc he built this speech almost as a distraction to create that moment. great job Dave!

My best man's speech made elliptical reference to my bachelor party, which involved strippers with cordless drills with dildos attached. It went over like a lead balloon.
