Had to run over to the urgent care center last night since I am at the in-laws in North Jersey.
Tired of sinus infections man.

The air quality in Kabul is horrendous. I actually have a memo, issued by the Department of Defense, that states the air quality is far below Western standards. We were told to make a copy and place in our medical records in case of future nose, throat, sinus and lung problems. To make matters worse, there was a large rock crushing plant behind our base, so there was consistent exposure to lots of rock dust.
Kabul sits at the base of a natural bowl, similar to LA. When the winds don't blow, the air just sits and nothing moves. I have pictures at night where you can see the particulates in the air.
I am very concerned about what kind of rock was being crushed there. I've never been able to find out. There are some large granite and marble deposits in Afghanistan, there actually is a beautiful marble quarry within five miles of our base. There are significant deposits of asbestos over there as well, and one of my best friends in the Army died two years ago from mesothelioma (he never served in Afghanistan however), so that's has me on pins and needles to boot.
A good read on the granite and marble deposits if you have insomnia:
