My first computer in was a Tandy. It was 1987, it had a monochrome monitor and no hard drive. 5.25 floppies! I could play Rogue on it though. It lasted for 6 years--at one point I installed a 40 meg (or maybe it was 20) HD. I gave it to my sister, and she destroyed.

There's a radio shack next to where I get my hair cut and I'll go in there sometimes when there's a wait. They actually have some interesting stuff sometimes. Once I got my kid a kit to build a remote control tank on clearance for like $8 bucks.

i don't think you fully understand the power of the live audience thing. It's almost third-reich-ish, the way the sidestage crew trains you to go crazy whenever they say to. And people do funny things when that red light is on. So they went crazy that way probably 5 times before they even knew what they were getting, and when their prize was revealed, they weren't even thinking about the prize, they were thinking about what there were supposed to do on cue.
