Brinsley Schwarz, one of those bands with a great Spinal Tap-ish history, intersecting as he/they/it did with Nick Lowe, Dave Edmunds, Graham Parker et al. Never knew of his/their intersection with The Band/Robertson until now

I just meant that B.S. sounded a lot like the Band with the organ/rhythm piano/lead guitar/Levonesque singer. I had forgotten that Nick Lowe was their main singer. As for Diamond, I agree that he rocked the Last Waltz but was still a little out of place.

Aquarium Drunkard, the music blog, has a series called Band not Band (soundalikes) and Brinley Schwarz was mentioned along with Goose Creek Symphony and Clover (who I guess went on to become Huey Lewis' News).

It's pretty weird in fact. I really think the leadership of BSA has long been quite out of touch with Scouting. One bit of trivia, something I didn't know until I went to Philmont, was the big Mormon influence on Scouting is. Boys join Scouts for lots of reasons--one issue today is that so many boys are growing up without fathers in their lives, scouting is a way for them to get experience with things like camping and such. Some like the idea of going for an Eagle Scout, which can be really valuable as it's something almost anyone who has persistence can achieve, but is still a real accomplishment.

Surprisingly, cayenne pepper is one of the few things I haven't "put up my crack".

I was in Boy Scouts when I was about 10--a Webelo, which is about the gayest sounding thing ever.I had this vision of camping, building fires, playing with knives and bow and arrows. My God what a letdown. It couldn't end soon enough, it was so boring.
